Job summary

V2X is seeking a Surface Prep Technician on 2nd shift at our Indianapolis site. You will remove coatings, prep surfaces, and blend finishes to meet specifications, using revolving abrasives and specialized tools.

Candidate should read prints and know materials; a HS diploma or GED is required, and the ability to obtain a secret clearance is essential. This position supports our modernization and sustainment operations with a focus on quality and safety.

Qualifications

• Read and interpret prints, drawings, process routings, and specifications.
• Knowledge of surface preparation techniques, abrasive materials, coating removal methods, and blending techniques.
• Thorough knowledge of various metals, plastics, and other materials and their reactions to surface prep operations.

Responsibilities

• Removes coatings, excess material, and surface defects using abrasive wheels, belts, and tools.
• Blends surface imperfections and coatings for a uniform appearance.
• Prepares surfaces for subsequent processes, ensuring proper adhesion and finish quality.
• Smooths surfaces and achieves specified finishes with appropriate techniques and equipment.
• Selects abrasive materials, tools, and equipment according to material and finish.
• Replaces worn abrasive materials and tools.
• Examines parts for finish conformance to specifications.

Responsibilities

• Removes coatings, excess material, and surface defects from items using revolving abrasive wheels, belts, and other specialized tools.
• Blends surface imperfections and coatings to achieve a uniform appearance.
• Prepares surfaces for subsequent processes, ensuring proper adhesion and finish quality.
• Smooths surfaces and produces specified finishes by using appropriate techniques and equipment.
• Selects abrasive materials, tools, and equipment according to the type of material, finish specification, and coating being removed.
• Replaces worn abrasive materials and tools.
• Examines parts for acceptability of finish and conformance to specifications.
• May be designated according to the type of material or process performed.
