Job summary

Leidos Defense Systems Electronics Manufacturing is seeking a Surface Mount Assembly Technician to join our team that runs SMT equipment to produce a variety of Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBA’s). The role requires handling SMT processes, reading drawings, and maintaining quality under tight schedules.

The candidate will work with stencil printers, SPI, P&P machines, reflow ovens, AOI, X-ray, and hand soldering, while understanding 0402/0603 packages and BGA processing.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Ability to read drawings and follow work instructions.
• Able to stand up to 8 hours daily.
• US Citizen with ability to obtain Secret Clearance.
• Resident of Northern Alabama or willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

• Operate SMT equipment including stencil printer, SPI, pick & place, reflow, AOI, X-ray, and hand soldering.
• Understand electronics packages (0402, 0603, BGA) and how they are processed on SMT lines.
• Work under a microscope during assembly.
• Hand solder SMT and through-hole components.
• Meet day-to-day objectives and contribute to team output.
• Work independently under limited supervision.
• Collaborate with cross-functional and production teams.

Primary Responsibilities

• Working knowledge of SMT machines such as: Stencil Printer, Solder Paste Inspection, Pick & Place machine, Reflow Oven, Automated Optical Inspection (AOI), X-ray and hand soldering
• Understanding of different electronics packages such as 0402, 0603, BGA’s and how they are processed on a SMT line
• Experience working under a microscope
• Hand soldering SMT and Through-hole parts
• Works to achieve day-to-day objectives and have significant impact on the work output.
• Works independently under limited supervision
• Work in team environment and interacting with different functions, project teams and productions teams

Basic Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED and less than 1 year of experience.
• Ability to read drawings and follow work instructions
• Ability to stand for up to 8 hours daily.
• Must be a US Citizen and possess or meet the eligibility to obtain (and be able to maintain) a Secret Clearance
• Must be a resident of the Northern Alabama area or willing to relocate to the area.

Preferred Qualifications

• Surface Mount Technology experience or related electronics assembly experience
• Knowledge of SMT processes used to build Printed Circuit Board Assemblies
• Current or prior certification in IPC-A-610.
• Current or prior certification in J-STD-001.
• Experience on SMT equipment and hand soldering

Pay Range
