Job summary

Atlantic Fields is expanding its Outdoor Pursuits team near Hobe Sound, FL, and seeks a Surfing Guide to provide expert surfing instruction and safety oversight for members across all skill levels.

You will lead one‑on‑one and small group sessions, tailor lesson plans, monitor conditions, and maintain equipment while collaborating with the Outdoor Pursuits team to deliver premium experiences on and off the water.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience as a surf instructor or competitive surfer with strong foundational teaching ability.
  • ISA (International Surfing Association) certification or equivalent preferred, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
  • Strong understanding of ocean safety, wave reading, and coastal conditions specific to South Florida.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and lifeguarding certifications or ability to obtain prior to start date.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including early mornings and weekends based on tidal and surf conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one‑on‑one and small group surf instruction to members of all ages and skill levels, from first‑time beginners to intermediate surfers.
  • Conduct thorough safety briefings before each session, including ocean awareness, rip current identification, and proper board handling.
  • Assess each member's ability level and tailor lesson plans to individual goals, progression, and comfort in the water.
  • Monitor ocean and weather conditions to ensure safe and appropriate surf sessions, adjusting or rescheduling as needed.
  • Maintain all surfboards, leashes, fins, and instructional equipment in clean, safe, and functional condition.
  • Coordinate with the Outdoor Pursuits team to schedule lessons, track member progression, and deliver a premium, personalized experience.
  • Instruct and participate in OP activities with all members and prospects to include but not limited to archery, axe throwing, equestrian operations, fishing and racquet sports.
  • Collaborate with OP Management and team members to continue to modify, evolve and innovate the amenities and experiences offered in the Outdoor Pursuits department.
  • Keep a detailed inventory of all Outdoor Pursuits equipment to include pre‑use, weekly and monthly checks on club assets.
  • Implementation and oversight of safety policies and compliance from staff and members.
  • Accompany and supervise participants to both on‑ and off‑site events and safely transport them in a company vehicle.
  • Participate in overnight camping experiences on property as requested.
  • Complete daily set‑up/breakdown of department activities per the department's SOP.
  • Serve as a brand ambassador for the Outdoor Pursuits department, consistently reflecting the club's standard of hospitality and member engagement.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Atlantic Fields is seeking a Surfing Guide to join the Outdoor Pursuits Department.

The Outdoor Pursuits Guide will ensure that the highest level of service is offered to the members of our Club by providing the member with personal and professional service throughout the property when pertaining to any and all outdoor activities. The Outdoor Pursuits Guide role is a very hands‑on role and encompasses the organization, instructing, and encouraging of activities, and as much participation as possible in all activities on property. In this role, you will be part of creating the Discovery Land Company experience for our members and fellow employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.
