North Country Community Mental Health works with interns at the Bachelor and Master levels to assist them with the completion of their educational requirements in the discipline of Behavioral Health. We offer interns a program that includes a variety of opportunities with our wide spectrum of services within the behavioral health field. Every internship is individualized based upon the interests of the student.
Interns will learn about the coordination of services, working with mental illness and intellectual or developmental disability populations, writing assessment and plans of service, and what they can expect to experience on a daily basis when employed within the behavioral health field. Many of our interns are offered full time positions at the end of their internship, upon completion of their degrees.
North Country Community Mental Health values education and works to provide staff with assistance towards the cost of education. Our dedicated Human Resources team provides our staff with assistance when they go to apply for these programs.

STARTING WAGE RANGE: $20.11 - $21.12 per hour
Education: Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent required. Credit given for relevant life experience. Some college preferred, especially courses in social work, education, psychology, nursing, speech pathology, recreation, occupational therapy, physical therapy, human services or other related field.
Experience: One-year experience in working with persons with developmental disabilities and/or mental illness is preferred but other combinations of experience will be considered
Other: Lived experiences with behavioral health issues are valued.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: This is an entry level, paraprofessional position providing a variety of supports to individuals with developmental disabilities and/or mental illness. Individuals may live in their own homes, with family members, or in specialized or non-specialized dependent care settings. All supports coordination services are provided in accordance with state and federal regulation including, but not limited to, the Michigan Mental Health Code, Medicaid standards, especially those related to the Habilitation Supports Waiver, ICF/IDD, iSPA, HCBS, and Clinical Services.
The Supports Coordinator Assistant (SCA) performs the tasks associated with supports coordination, under the immediate supervision of a degreed supports coordinator and the final supervision of the Service Coordination Supervisor. SCA duties include the traditional case management functions of plan of service development, monitoring, linking and coordination of supports and services. In addition, SCAs help with individual empowerment issues, individual health and safety, mobilization of natural supports, facilitate access to community resources, and help the individual achieve the goals or supports as determined through a person-centered planning process. Community inclusion, normalization, personal choice, self-determination, natural supports and empowerment are key principles.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Ability to walk, bend, stand, sit, lift to 50 pounds with or without assistance, stretch/reach, hear, see, hand/finger dexterity and drive a vehicle. Position requires physical ability to complete and maintain certification in de-escalation techniques which will be a training class provided to the job incumbent.
