Position Summary

The Supported Employment Job Developer provides individualized career development and job placement services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Your primary goal is to help clients identify their career interests, develop job-ready skills, and secure competitive employment within their local San Diego communities. You will cultivate relationships with employers, match clients to meaningful job opportunities, and support both the employer and employee throughout the hiring and onboarding process.

This role is ideal for proactive, community-minded professionals who enjoy building partnerships, empowering others, and creating pathways to long-term employment success.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Career Discovery & Assessment: Support clients in identifying their strengths, interests, and vocational goals through person-centered conversations, situational assessments, and community-based exploration.
  • Job Development & Placement: Conduct individualized job searches, identify suitable openings, submit applications, and coordinate interviews. Build and maintain strong relationships with local employers to create new and ongoing employment opportunities.
  • Employer Outreach & Community Engagement: Engage in consistent outreach to businesses, chambers of commerce, and community partners to promote inclusive hiring and expand employment options for clients.
  • Resume & Interview Preparation: Assist clients in developing resumes, practicing interview skills, and presenting themselves professionally to potential employers.
  • Worksite Analysis: Evaluate job sites to understand essential duties, workplace culture, and employer expectations. Break down job tasks into teachable steps when needed to support successful onboarding.
  • Onboarding & Initial Training Support: Provide short-term, targeted coaching during the early stages of employment to ensure clients understand job duties, workplace norms, and employer expectations.
  • Employer Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for employers, ensuring clear communication, timely follow-up, and collaborative problem solving.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate progress notes, job development logs, and employment outcomes in alignment with the Individual Program Plan (IPP) and agency standards. Ensure all required updates, progress notes, concerns, and employment-related communications are submitted promptly to the appropriate funding and oversight agencies, including San Diego Regional Center and the Department of Rehabilitation.
  • Professional Communication: Collaborate effectively with supervisors, team members, employers, and external partners while maintaining confidentiality and upholding client rights at all times.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to pass DOJ/FBI Live Scan background clearance
  • Valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance (if driving is required)
  • Proficiency using smartphones or tablets for real-time documentation and scheduling.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional
  • Certification in either "Association of Community Rehabilitation Educators (ACRE) - Customized Employment or Basic Employment" or "Certified Employment Support Professional (CESP)" (or willingness to obtain)

Preferred:

  • Experience as a vocational support professional
  • At least 1 year of experience working with individuals with IDD or in a vocational coaching/teaching capacity.
  • Experience conducting employer outreach or building community partnerships
  • Bilingual a plus
Compensation & Benefits
  • $25.00 – $28.00 per hour (following a 90-day trial period, pay rate will be determined based on job placement success)

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • This role is community-based; you will meet clients in various locations throughout San Diego County, including workplaces, community centers, libraries, and other settings where employment development services can be most effective.
  • Work may take place in diverse environments such as retail stores, offices, warehouses, restaurants, or employer sites during outreach and job development activities
  • Requires the ability to travel between multiple locations throughout the day to meet clients, conduct employer outreach, and support interviews or onboarding
  • May include occasional evenings, weekends, or holiday hours depending on client or employer needs
  • Requires the ability to stand, walk, or accompany clients during job exploration, interviews, or initial training periods.
  • Must be able to demonstrate or model basic job tasks when needed to support client understanding
