Job description

Every camp needs a team of hardworking support staff working behind the scenes! You’ll be camp’s ‘behind-the-scenes hero,’ ensuring everything runs smoothly so that campers and counsellors have the best summer possible.

What Do Summer Camp Support Staff Do?

Support staff play a crucial role in keeping camp running like clockwork. From managing camp logistics to maintaining facilities, your job is to keep everything on track while enjoying an unforgettable summer.

Expect to:

  • Work in key camp departments like office admin, maintenance, housekeeping, or food service.
  • Support the day‑to‑day operations that keep camp running.
  • Enjoy time off to experience camp activities and explore the USA.
  • Be part of an international team making camp an incredible place for everyone!

Unlike counsellors, you won’t be responsible for a group of campers, but you’ll still be immersed in the camp experience while working alongside other support staff.

Where You Can Work

We work with over 700 summer camps across the USA. You could spend your summer in New York, Washington, Boston, or California, with your days off giving you the chance to explore even more! After camp, you’ll have four weeks to travel and see even more of America.

Types of Support Staff Roles
  • Office Staff: Help with admin, phone calls, and general camp logistics.
  • Maintenance Crew: Keep camp looking amazing by handling repairs and upkeep.
  • Housekeeping & Laundry: Ensure cabins, lodges, and shared spaces stay clean and comfortable.
  • Kitchen Staff: Assist in preparing meals and keeping the dining hall running smoothly.

Support staff play a key part in making camp the best experience possible for both campers and counsellors.

Salary and Benefits
  • Competitive Salary – Earn more than camp counsellors, with wages depending on your role.
  • Free accommodation – Stay on‑site in staff cabins separate from campers.
  • Free food and drinks – All meals and drinks provided throughout the summer.
  • Travel time – Explore the USA for 30 days after camp.
A Typical Day in the Life of Support Staff

Your day will depend on your specific role, but here’s a general idea of what to expect:

  • Morning – Start the day early with breakfast before diving into your daily tasks.
  • Daytime – Work in your assigned role – whether it’s maintaining facilities, handling admin, or helping in the kitchen.
  • Breaks & Free Time – Unlike counsellors, support staff get more downtime during the day.
  • Evening – Wind down, relax with fellow staff, or join in on camp activities and traditions.
  • Sleep in Staff Cabins – Support staff have separate accommodation, providing a great balance of work and relaxation.
Skills You Need

No previous experience is needed – just a strong work ethic and a willingness to get stuck in!

Teamwork – Be part of a close‑knit team making camp a success.

Energy & Enthusiasm – A fun and engaging attitude goes a long way.

  • Be in full‑time education (this is a J‑1 Visa requirement).
  • Be at least 18 years old by June 1st.
  • Be available for at least 9 weeks over the summer.
  • Have a clean criminal record.
  • Be from the UK, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, or Iceland.
  • US citizens are also welcome to apply.

If you’re not currently in full‑time education, you can still apply for a Camp Counsellor or Activity Leader role!

J‑1 Visa and Travel

After camp, you’ll have 30 extra days to travel, shop, or take part in events before heading home.

To work at camp, you’ll need a J‑1 visa. We’ll help you with the process, partnering with an official visa sponsor to get everything sorted.

Got questions? No stress – just give us a call! We’re here to help, no awkward chats, just friendly advice from people who’ve been to camp and know the deal.

Drop us an email! Ask us anything or let us know when’s best for a chat. We’re quick on replies – expect to hear back within a day!
