City of Goldsboro is seeking a part-time Grant & Administrative Support for the Fire Department to assist in writing grants, researching funding opportunities, and documenting activities.
You will support grant proposals, maintain records, and assist with general department administration. Strong communication, organization, and MS Office skills are essential to succeed in this role.
Assists in writing grants, grant proposals, developing reports, maintaining records, and occasional transportation of fire and rescue apparatus to locations as needed for maintenance, repair, and other non-emergency operational needs
An employee in this class assists the Assistant Chief of Supportive Services by performing a variety of administrative and clerical support duties. Work generally requires the employee to independently perform a variety of administrative duties that support the fire department. This position will be responsible for grant research, development, preparation, and submittal of grant applications. Additional duties will ensure effective and efficient operations of fire and rescue apparatus, tools, and maintenance of fire equipment. The employee must be able to travel to and move around job sites independently. Job sites may involve uneven or rough terrain, steep slopes, inclines and unknown topography. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and must be able to endure adverse climatic conditions for short periods of time. Must wear protective clothing, i.e., hard hats, safety vests, and safety shoes when needed. The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate but could vary when performing on-site field visits. Employee will work an average of 20 hours per week.

Possession of a valid North Carolina Class B driver's license.
Possession of or ability to obtain repair certification including, but not limited to, ladder repair, pump school, and small motor repair.
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
The employee must be able to travel to and move around job sites independently. Job sites may involve uneven or rough terrain, steep slopes, inclines and unknown topography. Employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment may be loud at times. Employee will be required to wear personal protective equipment and may be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.
