• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

Supply Chain Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Supply Chain Manager to provide strategic and day-to-day leadership across Purchasing, Planning & Scheduling, and Material Control.

This role is responsible for aligning procurement, production planning, material availability, inventory control, and logistics with project requirements, engineering priorities, budgets, and production schedules. The Supply Chain Manager will lead cross-functional coordination, improve operational discipline, resolve material and schedule constraints, and ensure production teams receive the information and resources needed to support safe, efficient, and on-time vessel construction.

The ideal candidate brings strong leadership experience in shipbuilding, marine construction, heavy manufacturing, defense, or another complex project-based environment.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Department Management

• Lead, coach, and coordinate teams responsible for Purchasing, Planning & Scheduling, and Material Control.
• Establish priorities, accountability, performance expectations, and operating standards across the supply chain function.
• Develop department procedures, staffing plans, training requirements, and succession coverage.
• Create an integrated operating process connecting engineering releases, bills of material, work packages, procurement, receiving, warehousing, kitting, and production need dates.
• Identify and elevate material, schedule, supplier, quality, and cost risks with clear recovery actions and ownership.
• Promote a culture of safety, accuracy, urgency, collaboration, ethical conduct, and continuous improvement.

Purchasing & Supplier Management

• Oversee requisitions, RFQs, bid evaluations, purchase orders, approvals, expediting, and procurement records.
• Ensure purchasing decisions meet technical specifications, quality requirements, approved budgets, delivery schedules, and contractual obligations.
• Lead supplier sourcing, qualification, negotiation, performance management, and corrective action.
• Coordinate closely with Engineering, Project Management, Production, Quality, and Finance.
• Monitor open and overdue purchase orders and identify long-lead and critical-path materials.
• Develop recovery plans and alternate sourcing strategies when required.
• Resolve supplier issues involving pricing, invoices, receipts, damaged goods, quality concerns, and delivery performance.

Planning, Scheduling & Production Control

• Oversee development and maintenance of project schedules, work-order structures, work packages, production priorities, engineering need dates, and resource reports.
• Ensure planning and cost-tracking data is accurate, current, and aligned with project budgets and production status.
• Coordinate schedule interfaces across Engineering, Project Management, Production, Purchasing, Material Control, and Finance.
• Identify and remove bottlenecks that could affect production or project delivery.
• Analyze schedule performance, labor utilization, productivity, project hours, material readiness, and emerging constraints.
• Ensure production teams receive timely drawings, work packages, material status, and actionable scheduling information.

Material Control, Inventory & Logistics

• Oversee receiving, inspection coordination, warehousing, inventory control, material preservation, issue, kitting, staging, internal movement, shipping, and surplus disposition.
• Ensure incoming shipments are accurately received against purchase orders, identified, recorded, stored, and communicated to the appropriate stakeholders.
• Establish controls for project-assigned materials, owner-furnished equipment, high-value items, shelf-life materials, shortages, substitutions, returns, and nonconforming material.
• Maintain material traceability and inventory accuracy through audits, cycle counts, reconciliations, and corrective action.
• Coordinate material priorities and delivery to the point of use in support of production schedules.

Cost, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

• Develop regular reports covering procurement workload, actual versus budget performance, overdue commitments, material availability, schedule health, inventory accuracy, and supplier performance.
• Partner with Finance on invoice matching, commitment tracking, accruals, forecasting, and resolution of procurement or receiving discrepancies.
• Establish and track meaningful KPIs for lead time, cost, schedule reliability, inventory accuracy, and internal service levels.
• Maintain disciplined use of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, and applicable enterprise planning, procurement, and inventory systems.
• Support system configuration, data standards, user training, and process audits.
• Identify opportunities for cost reduction, waste elimination, standardization, improved material flow, and stronger supplier performance.

Compliance & Cross-Functional Coordination

• Ensure supply chain activities comply with company policies, quality procedures, safety requirements, contract terms, and applicable customer or regulatory requirements.
• Maintain accurate and retrievable purchasing, planning, inventory, and material-control records.
• Participate in project, production, planning, and management reviews.
• Provide clear status updates and recommended actions related to procurement, schedule, material readiness, and supplier performance.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Operations, or a related discipline; equivalent directly relevant experience may also be considered.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in purchasing, production planning, material control, supply chain, or operations within shipbuilding, marine construction, heavy manufacturing, defense, or a comparable project-based environment.
• 3+ years of leadership experience managing supervisors, managers, or multidisciplinary teams.

• Professional certification such as CPSM, CSCP, CPIM, or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of quality management systems, controlled material processes, supplier quality, and continuous-improvement methods.

• Must be able to wear required PPE, which may include hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe footwear, hearing protection, gloves, fall protection, and respiratory protection when required.
• Must be able to respond to urgent material, supplier, or schedule issues in support of project deadlines.
