Carter Machinery is seeking a Supply Chain Category Manager to optimize equipment procurement and supplier relationships across multiple locations in the Richmond, VA area. The role emphasizes negotiation, demand planning, and inventory control to drive efficiency and business goals.

Responsibilities

• Determine ancillary equipment needs and place orders with vendors
• Coordinate package details with Supply Chain Manager and packagers before shipping
• Negotiate equipment pricing, costs, and delivery times with vendors; issue RFQs and POs
• Review vendor invoices for accuracy and allocate costs to projects
• Support demand planning for ancillary equipment on key pipeline accounts
• Maintain records of ancillary equipment and inform stakeholders of changes
• Recommend improvements to supply chain operations to boost efficiency
• Track inventory movements and perform cycle counts
• Maintain stocking levels to meet financial goals and fill-rate targets
• Collaborate with team to achieve Continuous Improvement goals
• Perform other duties as assigned

Job Title: Supply Chain Category Manager

Location: Richmond, Virginia; Manassas, Virginia; Elkridge, Maryland; Salem, Virginia

Starting Compensation Range: $73,000 - $95,000 per year

What You Will Do:

• Determine what ancillary equipment each package needs and place orders with the right vendor(s)
• Partner with Supply Chain Manager and packagers to confirm package details before shipping, flag discrepancies, and communicate any changes to equipment documentation and Bills of Landing
• Negotiate equipment pricing, costs, and delivery times with vendors, and issue requests for quotes and purchase orders
• Review allied vendor invoices for completeness and accuracy, allocate costs to the right projects, and route for payment — working closely with vendors on any needed corrections
• Support demand planning for ancillary equipment on key pipeline accounts — staying ahead of upcoming jobs, equipment needs, and ordering/receiving lead times
• Maintain accurate records of ancillary equipment, including delivery and storage reports, and keep stakeholders informed of changes
• Recommend and implement improvements to supply chain operations that boost efficiency and support business goals
• Track inventory movements; Perform routine cycle counts to ensure inventory accuracy
• Help maintain stocking levels that meet financial goals and fill-rate targets
• Collaborate with team to achieve Continuous Improvement goals and objectives
• Perform other duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For:

• Previous experience in supply chain or procurement
• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred but not required
• Knowledge of supply chain processes, including procurement and inventory management
• Ability to analyze and evaluate data for asset levels, assignments, and required shipping dates
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Good attention to detail
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on continuous improvement
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
• Strong PC skills and the ability to self-develop and adapt to changing technology
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

What Success Looks Like In This Role:

• Accurate identification of package needs and orders placed with vendor(s) in a timely manner
• Confirmation of package details prior to shipping
• Successful negotiation of equipment pricing, costs, and delivery times with vendors
• Accurate and timely issuance of requests for quotes and purchase orders
• Efficient review of allied vendor invoices; Working relationship with vendors to make timely corrections as needed
• Functioning well in a fast-paced environment and demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple competing tasks and demands
• Positive interactions with supervisor and understanding problems and concerns
• Self-directed, organized, and able to interact professionally with all levels of the organization
