Position Title: Supplier Quality Specialist

Summary

Supports development and implementation of a comprehensive supplier quality program to include vendor/manufacturer as well as raw material qualification. Prepares written procedures in the form of work instructions and process flow diagrams to support internal communication as well as external certification.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Establishes and documents the criteria for Supplier qualification.
  2. Communicates with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure all documentation is acquired and up to date.
  3. Performs internal and external auditing, including travel where essential.
  4. Manages supplier audits, SCARs, and improvement projects.
  5. Coordinates the supplier qualification process. Develops a project schedule for the approval process based on an established priority system and input from Purchasing. Ensures timely approval of suppliers based on the project schedule.
  6. Manages supplier changes from receipt to assessment, validation, and approval.
  7. Identifies potential supplier risks to avoid any disruption to the supply chain and reports to senior management on all activities/actions taken.
  8. Assesses the supplier management process effectiveness through internal audit and performance review.
  9. Monitors and measures supplier product and process quality.
  10. Identifies process improvement opportunities using analytical frameworks.
  11. Applies creative problem-solving approaches using statistical tools and techniques.
  12. Develops and maintains effective metrics for key activities.
  13. Performs risk management activities in a cross-functional environment.
  14. Coordinates qualification of raw materials based on priority with input from Sales and Purchasing.
  15. Coordinates with the QC Manager to develop raw material specifications. Supports specification data entry into ERP (DEACOM) and item nomenclature consistent with established naming conventions.

Qualifications

Education:

- Bachelor’s degree at a minimum. 3 years related experience and/or training in dietary supplement/pharmaceutical industry; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Fields of study include but are not limited to food science, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, pharmacy, nutrition, medicine, or epidemiology.

Experience:

- Experience in conducting supplier audits is highly desirable.

- Experience with supplier quality management preferred.

Key Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, SOPs, and regulations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to follow instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Proficient in basic math operations and statistical analysis, including algorithms, models, and regression equations.
  • Problem-solving skills involving multiple variables to develop standardized solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of software suites including Microsoft Office, communication, and document management software.
  • Knowledge of FDA regulations including 21 CFR, GMP, cGMP, and quality management practices.
  • Project management software skills are preferred.
