Job summary

A leading iron casting supplier is seeking a Supplier Quality Specialist. This role involves managing supplier quality performance, conducting audits, and resolving quality issues. Candidates should have an associate's degree or equivalent experience, along with strong communication and problem-solving skills. Up to 75% travel is required. Qualifications

  • 5+ years related experience and/or training in a manufacturing environment.
  • Quality Management System certified auditor or experience in conducting supplier audits.
  • Knowledge of Value Add Services (Machining, Paint, Heat Treat, Assembly).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; solid MS Office abilities.
  • Quality Management System auditing experience or capability.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct supplier audits to improve process standardization and compliance.
  • Develop long-term supplier relationships for cost-reduction.
  • Manage quality performance for suppliers and internal processes.
  • Develop long-term supplier relationships to enable cost reduction.
  • Lead supplier improvement projects to raise capability and meet WF requirements.
  • Administer supplier PPAP submissions and maintain document control in ETQ.
  • Travel up to 60-75% domestically and internationally for supplier relations.

This position involves both Supplier Quality and Supplier Development activities. This includes investigating, analyzing, and resolving supplier quality problems by conducting audits, analyzing performance trends, and leading continuous improvement projects in addition to the outsourced APQP process. Responsible for the development of alternative suppliers and materials.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Management of quality performance for supplier, value add, external and internal (machine shop).
    • Conduct supplier audits to drive process standardization, compliance, waste elimination, and continuous improvement.
    • Establish specific short/long-term supplier quality goals for suppliers based on performance.
    • Champion problem-solving and root cause analysis activities with suppliers and customers to eliminate the recurrence of non-conformances.
    • Develop long-term supplier relationships to generate and implement cost-reduction.
    • Strategically lead supplier performance improvement projects in an effort to increase the supplier capability of consistently meeting Waupaca Foundry requirements. Projects may include but are not limited to; process analysis, value stream mapping, process capability and throughput analysis, 6-Sigma, 6S, and Kaizen events.
    • Collect performance data, create, and distribute supplier report cards.
    • Administer and maintain conformance for supplier PPAP submissions.
    • Maintain document control for Supplier Quality through ETQ.
    • Conduct pre-business assessments and new supplier audit portfolios for onboarding.
    • Conduct supplier training on WF policies as needed.
  • Management of ETQ as an Administrator to both internal and external users.
  • Up to 60% travel for supplier relationship management is required.

Preferred Education/Experience Requirements
  • Associate’s degree; or 5 years related experience and/or training in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certified ISO Auditor.

Travel
  • This position requires up to 60-75% domestic and international travel.
  • Travel to supplier and customer locations to resolve quality problems.
  • Travel to WF locations to aid in understanding and resolving supplier quality problems.
  • Travel to appropriate training sites.
Additional Information
  • Communicate engineering and manufacturing specifications to supplier technical teams.
  • Actively manage suppliers to ensure there are no regressions with the implementation of new processes.
  • Aide in the new, probationary, and rejected supplier transition processes.
  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any non-conformities relating to product, process, and quality systems.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to the product, process, and quality system.
  • Initiate, recommend, or provide solutions through designated channels.
  • Verify the implementation of solutions.
  • Assure compliance to all applicable legal requirements pertaining to the basic environmental aspects and impacts. Work to help achieve the performance goals established in the environmental measurement areas. Offer suggestions that can lead to improved environmental performance whenever possible.
