Job summary

Google's hardware team seeks a Supplier Development Engineer to provide the manufacturing capabilities necessary to deliver high-quality hardware products to users. You will evaluate product designs and establish processes, tools, and procedures, while partnering with vendors to keep manufacturing controlled and repeatable.

Working with Commodity Managers, Design Engineers and cross-functional partners, you will help define product requirements and specifications to ensure seamless integration

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Operations, Hardware Engineering, Materials or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in manufacturing specifically surface finishing (including T-treatment, sandblasting and anodizing), CNC, 3D printing (3DP), PVD, painting, MIM, polishing and lapping full forms.
  • 10 years of experience in manufacturing.
  • 8 years of experience in people management.
  • Experience in mechanical bonding like riveting/press fits, laser welding, and adhesives.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product Design, Industrial Design, Project Management, Reliability, and Product Operations to deliver Google Hardware products to market.
  • Provide detailed and critical design for manufacturing reviews of mechanical parts and make recommendations to product design to improve manufacturing processes for quality, yield, and cost.
  • Use statistical process control and yield studies to validate process capability (Cp/Cpk), establish reasonable specifications with PD/ID, and drive process improvements in partnership with a cross functional team.
  • Act as the first-level go-to person for identifying suitable manufacturing processes. Identify and highlight manufacturability issues during engineering builds to ensure product quality is stable and that supply is predictable during ramp. Work with Reliability Engineering to set up ongoing reliability test plans for manufacturing processes that are critical to function and fix the issue.

  • 10 years of experience in manufacturing.
  • 8 years of experience in people management.
  • Experience in mechanical bonding like riveting/press fits, laser welding, and adhesives.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Materials, or a related engineering field.
  • Experience in Manufacturing, Quality, or Product Engineering for hardware technology and systems.
  • Experience in influencing design through data-driven design for excellence (DFx) proposals and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) callouts.
  • Expertise in improving yields and cycle times for high-volume, premium-finish components.
  • Ability to work, influence, and resolve conflicts cross-functionally with internal/external partners.
  • Ability to implement cosmetic quality standards, color/finish measurement, defect catalogs, and grading limits.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $171000 - $247000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits
