Job summary

Google Mountain View is seeking a Supplier Development Engineer Manager to provide manufacturing capabilities for high-quality hardware products. You will evaluate designs, establish processes, and partner with component vendors to maintain controlled, repeatable manufacturing while working with cross-functional teams to meet product requirements.

You will lead design-for-manufacturing reviews, drive process improvements, and ensure supply continuity during ramp by identifying manufacturability

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Operations, Hardware Engineering, Materials or equivalent practical experience.
• 10 years of manufacturing experience in surface finishing, CNC, 3D printing, PVD, painting, MIM, polishing and lapping.
• 8 years of people management experience.
• Experience in mechanical bonding such as riveting, press fits, laser welding and adhesives.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver Google Hardware products to market.
• Provide detailed design for manufacturing reviews of mechanical parts and recommend improvements for quality, yield and cost.
• Use statistical process control and yield studies to validate process capability (Cp/Cpk) and drive process improvements.
• Identify manufacturability issues during engineering builds to ensure product quality and supply stability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Operations, Hardware Engineering, Materials or equivalent practical experience.
• 10 years of experience in manufacturing, specifically surface finishing (T‑treatment, sandblasting, anodizing), computer numerical control (CNC), 3D printing (3DP), physical vapor deposition (PVD), painting, metal injection molding (MIM), polishing and lapping.
• 8 years of experience in people management.
• Experience in mechanical bonding such as riveting, press fits, laser welding and adhesives.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Materials or a related engineering field.
• Experience in Manufacturing, Quality or Product Engineering for hardware technology and systems.
• Experience influencing design through data‑driven proposals (DFx) and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) callouts.
• Expertise in improving yields and cycle times for high‑volume, premium‑finish components.
• Ability to work, influence and resolve conflicts cross‑functionally with internal/external partners.
• Ability to implement cosmetic quality standards, color/finish measurement, defect catalogs and grading limits.

Responsibilities

As a Supplier Development Engineer, you will provide the manufacturing capabilities necessary to deliver high‑quality hardware products to our users. You will be responsible for evaluating product designs and establishing the associated processes, tools and procedures. Additionally, you will partner with vendors responsible for component fabrication to ensure that manufacturing processes remain controlled and repeatable. Working alongside Commodity Managers, Design Engineers and various cross‑functional teams, you will help define Google’s product requirements and specifications. Your efforts will ensure that the components of Google’s hardware integrate seamlessly, maintaining smooth product performance for an excellent user experience.

• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including Product Design, Industrial Design, Project Management, Reliability and Product Operations to deliver Google Hardware products to market.
• Provide detailed and critical design for manufacturing reviews of mechanical parts and make recommendations to improve manufacturing processes for quality, yield and cost.
• Use statistical process control and yield studies to validate process capability (Cp/Cpk), establish reasonable specifications with PD/ID and drive process improvements in partnership with a cross‑functional team.
• Act as the first‑level go‑to person for identifying suitable manufacturing processes. Identify and highlight manufacturability issues during engineering builds to ensure product quality is stable and that supply is predictable during ramp. Work with Reliability Engineering to set up ongoing reliability test plans for manufacturing processes that are critical to function and fix the issue.

US: $171,000 - $248,000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits
