Job Summary:

The Patient Care Assistant I (PCA I) supports patient care activities under the supervision of a registered nurse in both clinic and inpatient settings. The PCA I collaborates with charge nurses and staff nurses to ensure patient needs are met, performs delegated patient care activities, and follows safety protocols. The role requires competence in basic patient care, medical terminology, communication, organizational, and computer skills, demonstrating personal and professional effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Education/Licensure/Specialized Training:
   • High School diploma or equivalent, or appropriate technical training.
   • Nursing/Medical Assistant Certification required.
   • Basic Life Support (BLS) from an AHA-approved program.
   • Additional certificates as required by the specific unit or clinic.
2. Work Experience: Six months to one year of related clinical experience preferred.
3. Skills/Knowledge: Mental Health First Aid within 90 days of hire; EKG and/or Phlebotomy competency validation within 6 months, as applicable to the specialty area.

Special Requirements:

1. Communication Skills: Above average verbal skills, with heavy public contact.
2. Other Skills: Knowledge of medical terminology.
3. Work Schedule: Flexibility to work weekends and holidays.
