US Department of Veterans Affairs at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit seeks a Supervisory Social Work Program Coordinator for the Mental Health Service.
The position oversees HUD-VASH and leads program operations, supervision, budgeting, and policy development to advance patient-centered care within the VA Detroit Healthcare System. The role requires a CSWE-accredited MSW, active state licensure, and progressive supervisory experience.
This position is located at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center (JDDVAMC). The incumbent is a Supervisory Social Work Program Coordinator and serves in a full-time capacity within the Mental Health Service (MHS) within the VA Detroit Healthcare System. The social worker is part of the Mental Health Homeless Programs Section (MHHP). The incumbent is responsible for the oversight of the Housing and Urban Development - Veteran Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD VASH) program at the facility. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met.
Candidates must have one year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in administration, demonstrating progressively more professional competency skills and judgment. Individual may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.
Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
Experience as a Supervisor in Mental Health, Street-Community Outreach Experience, Experience supervising other supervisors, HUD and/or Housing Choice Voucher Experience, Marco and Clinical Licensure/ Experience.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS 13. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of to GS 13.
The social work duties include sedentary and ambulation (walking) throughout the medical center and in the community according to the demands of daily tasks. Light carrying, less than 15 pounds-may be required as part of duties related to storing or moving files. Working around moving objects or vehicles required as part of daily ambulating within the medical center around patients who use motorized scooters and wheelchairs. Working along-duties require working along at intervals during the day (i.e., documenting progress notes, completing phone call, etc.). Reaching above shoulder- may be required during daily task to access files located in overhead cabinets. Walking- required approximately 3-4 hours daily associated with walking from assigned office to outpatient clinics and other medical center departments as needed to complete duties of the position. Standing-required approximately 3-4 hours daily associated with walking from assigned office to outpatient clinics and other departments within the medical center as needed to complete duties of the position and filing patient records as needed.
