Job description

The Supervisory Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing) functions as a first-level supervisor responsible for overseeing a group of MSTs, with administrative duties including planning and directing work. Provides necessary technical supervision to accomplish organizational tasks.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen. Non-citizens may be appointed if qualified citizens cannot be recruited, as per VA Handbook 5005.
  • Experience: Six months of relevant experience or
  • Education: One year above high school with healthcare-related courses or
  • Experience/Education: Combination of experience and education qualifying for entry level.

Additional Requirements:

  • English proficiency in spoken and written forms.
  • Foreign education must be evaluated for equivalency.
Grade Determinations

GS-08 Experience and demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities include managing, supervising decontamination, sterilization, and distribution processes, and performing supervisory duties such as planning, evaluating, and staff management.

Assignment

The role includes supervising staff, managing attendance and leave, recommending personnel actions, and resolving employee issues. It involves technical supervision of all aspects of sterile processing.

Physical Requirements

Work is performed in various environments, requiring standing, walking, lifting, and working with potentially hazardous materials and environments.

Duties

Supervises staff, develops duty assignments, evaluates performance, and manages operations within the sterile processing department. The work schedule is from 11:30 pm to 8:00 am, with rotating weekends and holidays.
