Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing)

Join to apply for the Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing) role at VA Detroit.

The LTC Charles S. Kettles VA Medical Center is recruiting to fill multiple Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing) positions. The Medical Supply Technician (MST) will function in Sterile Processing Service.

This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until July 28, 2025. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available.

Responsibilities

• Provide sterilization, preparation, supply items, and reusable medical equipment decontamination and distribution support for the medical center.
• Remove soil, blood, tissue fragments, body fluids, and other contaminants by wiping, soaking, rinsing, and scrubbing.
• Inspect packages for indications of proper sterilization, assemble basic sets and trays, and operate sterilizers such as steam, vaporized hydrogen peroxide, and high-level disinfecting scopes.
• Complete segments of work related to decontamination, sterilization, inspection, and assembly of RMD.
• Operate sterilization equipment and prepare operating room case carts.

Work Schedule

3:30pm - Midnight or 11:30pm - 8:00am, with rotating weekends and holidays.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Background/security investigation required.
• Pre-employment physical and drug screening.

Qualifications

Minimum six months of experience or equivalent education in healthcare-related courses. Grade levels GS-04 to GS-06 require increasing experience and knowledge of sterilization procedures, medical terminology, and safety precautions.

Physical Requirements

Work involves standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, working in hot/cold environments, and around chemicals and biological materials.
