Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan repayment initiative. Applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria per VHA policy and submit their application within four months of appointment. The program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

1. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only if qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA Policy.
2. English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
3. Education: Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
4. Certification: Must meet one of the specified certification options, including generalist or categorical certifications by ASCP or AMT, with specific notes on acceptable certifications for different positions.
5. Grade Determinations: Experience at the GS-11 level, including knowledge of clinical laboratory science principles, quality control, informatics, instrumentation, and interpretation skills. For GS-12, additional KSAs include knowledge of laws and regulations, quality management, leadership, supervisory skills, and administrative abilities.
6. Preferred Experience: Hematology experience and leadership skills are desirable.

Duties

The Supervisory Clinical Laboratory Scientist oversees the clinical laboratory, including planning, scheduling, staff supervision, quality assurance, compliance, and coordination with other departments. Responsibilities also include staff training, documentation, regulatory inspections, and operational management. The position involves occasional travel, administrative duties, and participation in external inspections.

Work schedule is Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with potential changes.
