Job description

This position is located within the Forest Service, Enterprise Operations Office, and serves as a Supervisory Civil Engineer with responsibility for managing the Engineering Service Line, which provides facilities design, operations, and maintenance services throughout the Forest Service.

Duties

1. Provides necessary information pertaining to engineering projects involving planning, development, and assessment for facility operations and maintenance.
2. Reviews and provides input into new, proposed, or revised Enterprise Program policy concerning these programs.
3. Develops, manages, implements, and provides technical advice on complex or unusual projects, evaluating new technology and devising innovative approaches without precedents.
4. Evaluates facility plans and design objectives, including conducting surveys and investigations to gather data for designs and improvements.
5. Plans work for the unit, assigns tasks to employees, and establishes standards for production or quality.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or be exempt.
• Subject to background investigation and fingerprint check.
• Successful completion of a one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
• Federal employees must have payments made by direct deposit.
• Must pass the E-Verify employment verification check.

Qualifications

Basic Requirement:

• GS-12: Degree in Engineering accredited by ABET or equivalent coursework in engineering science or physics.
• OR a combination of education and experience demonstrating knowledge of engineering sciences, including professional registration, passing the FE exam, relevant coursework, or related scientific curricula with professional engineering experience.

Specialized Experience for GS-13: One year of experience equivalent to GS-12, involving providing engineering expertise, advising on contracts, completing technical calculations, and planning work standards.
