Job Summary
The Supervisor-WTP supervises, leads, and monitors all treatment plant operations for Dallas Water Utilities. Supervises staff and oversees treatment plant working conditions and activities.
Job Description
Essential Functions
- Serve as the licensed operator-in-charge according to state regulatory requirements, providing leadership and direction for treatment plant operations; supervise licensed operators and handle customer issues or complaints; prioritize tasks, schedule, assign maintenance requests, and ensure work is completed on schedule with clear performance expectations.
- Hire, train, evaluate performance, enforce discipline, verify and approve time, manage equipment, chemicals, and technology, and perform supervisory tasks.
- Participate in developing and implementing long-range plans, programs, schedules, budgets, and resource allocation; coordinate and oversee treatment operations to ensure safety and consistency.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and address issues with treatment, production, and delivery methods, equipment, and facilities; perform audits and provide technical and mechanical guidance.
- Plan, supervise, and coordinate activities; conduct staff meetings to ensure equipment availability, reliability, and capacity.
- Oversee process control duties such as monitoring plant performance to ensure compliance with regulations; supervise chemical use and laboratory analysis; handle paperwork and optimize services.
- Address employee complaints or grievances; refer serious issues to higher management; implement disciplinary actions as needed.
- Identify and implement methods to improve production and effectiveness.
- Develop and standardize practices, procedures, and standards for quality and efficiency.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of TCEQ regulatory compliance for drinking water.
- Knowledge of water systems, mains, facilities, and equipment.
- Knowledge of treatment plant and pump station equipment, processes, and procedures.
- Knowledge of SCADA systems for monitoring and optimization.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety protocols and HazMat handling.
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment use and care.
- Ability to read complex schematics.
- Ability to follow and give instructions, read charts, and maintain records.
- Ability to supervise and advise technical staff.
- Ability to oversee advanced wastewater treatment methods.
- Strong math skills.
- Manual labor capability for extended periods, including lifting and working with heavy equipment.
- Ability to maintain records and logs.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Licenses and Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current Class B (or higher) Surface Water license from TCEQ.
- Valid driver's license with a good record.
Experience:
- At least five years in surface water treatment.
- At least two years in lead work, team training, or supervision.
Other Requirements:
- Own transportation.
- Subject to 24/7 call-out.
- Availability for varying shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Applicants with out-of-state water licenses must obtain a TCEQ license.
Salary Range: $28.27 - $33.93. The offered salary depends on qualifications.
