Position Summary

Provides on-site support, training, and communication regarding the reprocessing of surgical instruments and trays to contracted facilities in compliance with the Department of Health, TJC, OSHA, CDC, AAMI, and AORN standards and facilities goals and policies. Coordinates and manages day-to-day operations of SPD employees.

Duties
  1. Oversees and supports daily operations of all activities related to reprocessing of medical supplies and instrumentation, including decontamination, cleaning, assembly, wrapping, sterilization, and storage, ensuring compliance with all standards and regulations.
  2. Assumes responsibility, in collaboration with IMS SPD manager, for scheduling new employee orientation, on-the-job training, in-service education, and quality assurance programs.
  3. Promotes concepts of a Lean work environment.
  4. Communicates professionally both verbally and in writing with hospital staff and company employees.
  5. Represents IMS positively in all public interactions.
  6. Practices within the scope of certification and job description.
  7. Supports and adheres to IMS and facility policies and procedures, referring decisions beyond personal responsibility to IMS leadership.
  8. Coordinates repair and replacement of broken instrumentation and equipment, assisting in order processes as needed.
  9. Maintains proper attire and grooming standards.
Additional Responsibilities
  1. Arrives on time and is prepared for work.
  2. Leads and participates in in-services and educational sessions.
  3. Fosters best practices through open communication and skill development.
  4. Follows hospital and IMS chain of command for problem resolution.
  5. Maintains effective relationships with facility departments.
  6. Responds to calls from OR and other end-users during and after hours.
  7. Ensures timely delivery and proper handling of sterilized instruments.
  8. Provides timely resolution of facility issues.
  9. Schedules staff and assists in reviewing documentation related to SOPs and policies.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervision and coordination of the sterile processing team.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least three years of SPD experience, including one year in a leadership role.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Word and Excel; experience with instrument tracking systems preferred.
  • Active certification in sterile processing via CBSPD or IAHCSMM, with certification obtained within 12 months if not already certified.
  • Valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and ability to operate a vehicle for travel.
  • Knowledge of instruments, OR operations, and ability to communicate effectively with OR staff.
  • Ability to train staff and manage department productivity within budget.
  • Excellent communication skills.
Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, see, hear, and lift/move up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 100 pounds.

Additional Information
