The Role:

The Security Services Supervisor provides security for Water Services facilities, enforces rules and regulations, answers questions and provides information to the public. Supervises security officers including annual evaluations, timecard management, scheduling of all staff, and safety inspections.

Salary:

• FLSA non-exempt, and will earn overtime for any hours worked over 40 in a week.
• A Grade 316 with an hourly salary between $27.5197 - $41.2798.

Holiday, Vacation, and Sick Leave:

• The City of Glendale observes 10.5 holidays per year, and full-time employees are also granted an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave to celebrate their cultural or religious holidays throughout the calendar year.
• Vacation leave accrues at:
  • 5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours/17.25 days per year)
  • Increases to 6.12 hours after 5 years
  • Then caps out at 7.6 hours after 10 years of service.
• Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours/14.25 days per year).

* Days per year estimates are based on an 8-hour work day.

Retirement:

• This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
• The current contribution rate is 12.27%.
• Contributions are mandatory, and are collected each pay period.

Responsibilities:

1. Plans, supervises and evaluates the work of personnel in the Security Units of the Police Department or the Security Division of the Water Services Department.
2. Determines workload analysis; schedules personnel, tracks and processes timekeeping information.
3. Monitors fire, panic, and access control alarms.
4. Evaluates work standards and methods to ensure efficiency.
5. Issues Employee ID and Access Control Cards, and oversees access control systems.
6. Gathers and prepares statistical reports on a daily, weekly, monthly, or annual basis as required.
7. Resolves and handles complaints.
8. Determines effective resolutions to problem situations related to security.
9. Conducts research and/or audits, analyze findings, prepare reports and make recommendations to management.
10. Plans, prioritizes and assigns work schedules to all duty posts.
11. May receive and investigate security related incidents and write reports to management.
12. May be required to analyze and react to emergency situations, determine the nature of the emergency and contact the appropriate party.
13. Allocates department issued resources and ensures appropriate financial accounting.
14. Conducts research and/or audits, analyzes findings, prepares reports and makes recommendations to management.
15. May operate a portable radio to maintain contact with staff and other agencies.
16. Operates city vehicles.
17. May perform duties of security officer.
18. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Water Services Responsibilities:

1. Monitors the training progress of new security officers; recommends updates and implements changes in the training program.
2. Develops and updates policies and procedures.
3. Reviews and compiles CCTV video coverage.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum three (3) years’ experience as a security officer, police officer, or military police officer. One year of lead or supervisory experience, to include making assignments, instructing, and leading the work of subordinate employees, is preferred.

Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.

Knowledge of:

• Industrial security practices
• Electronic security alarms and systems
• Principles and practices of personnel management, supervision, and safety

Skill in:

• Analyzing and reacting to emergency situations
• Making assignments, instructing, and leading the work of subordinate employees

Ability to:

• Review, monitor, and analyze CCTV video
• Identify hazardous or unsafe conditions or behaviors
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the public
• Effectively communicate orally and in writing
• Operate city vehicles

Special Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid Arizona driver’s license.
• May be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
• This position is classified as safety-sensitive which requires candidates to successfully undergo drug and alcohol testing prior to employment. They will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy. A post-offer physical assessment is required. The City of Glendale will incur the cost of all required testing.
