Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan's El Paso rod and refining plant seeks a Supervisor Quality Laboratory to lead a safety-conscious operations team. You will oversee daily production, implement plans, and ensure quality control across processes.

Candidates bring five years of supervisory experience or a relevant technical degree; you will mentor staff, manage budgets, and uphold rigorous safety standards while optimizing performance in a 24/7 operation.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED with 5 years of related supervisory experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical mining discipline with internship experience in an industrial environment.
• Knowledge of supervisory methods, budgeting and safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate safe, efficient operation of the assigned work unit.
• Implement production plans according to approved schedules.
• Participate in daily operational duties and assist with difficult tasks.
• Inspect and evaluate progress, identify issues and direct remedial action.
• Conduct performance evaluations of staff.
• Prepare staffing, materials and equipment estimates for upcoming activities.
• Maintain an inventory of parts and materials.
• Approve purchases of materials and equipment.
• Maintain time, materials and equipment usage reports.
• Train staff in safety procedures and maintain safety data sheets.

Where You Will Work

Our rod and refining plant in El Paso, Texas, is a key contributor to our ranking as one of the world’s largest manufacturers of continuous cast copper rod – a main material used in the manufacturing of wire and cable products. The refinery has the potential to operate at an annual production capacity of about 900 million pounds of copper cathode, which is sufficient to refine all the copper anode we produce at our Miami operations in Arizona. The refinery also produces nickel carbonate, copper telluride and autoclaved slimes material containing gold, silver, platinum and palladium.

What You Will Do

Under general supervision, supervises, coordinates and controls the safe and efficient operation of an assigned work unit.

• Assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of staff for assigned work unit.
• Implement production plans according to approved schedule
• May participate in the full range of daily operational duties, performing the most difficult
• Inspects and evaluates work in progress, identifies any problem areas, and may direct remedial action
• Conducts performance evaluations on subordinate staff
• Prepares estimates of the staffing, materials, and equipment requirements for projected work activities
• Maintains an inventory of parts and materials
• Approves purchases of materials and equipment
• Maintains time, materials and equipment use reports
• Requisitions tools, supplies, materials and equipment
• Trains staff in safety procedures
• Maintains safety data sheets for crews
• Performs other duties as required

What You Bring To Freeport

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED and five (5) years of related operational experience, including supervisory or lead experience; OR
• Bachelor's degree in a technical mining related discipline with at least one (1) summer internship experience (or equivalent) working in a mining or industrial environment
• Additional certifications or licensure appropriate to the job may be required
• Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques
• Skilled in resolving day-to-day questions/problems regarding equipment, materials, methods and procedures needed to complete projects
• Skilled in budget preparation, monitoring and administration
• Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
• Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

What We Offer You

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $80,000 - $110,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
