Job Description
Position Overview:Supervises employees and quality assurance activities for the assigned area to produce a high-quality product within established standards for safety, quality, quantity, and housekeeping.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervises personnel assigned to specific duties relating to the adherence to the quality programs. These programs include: Safety Quality Food Certification (SQF), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP), Quality Management System (QMS), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Micro lab procedures.
- Documents, trains, and monitors that employees have applied the new training.
- Ensure a good follow-up of non-conformities
- Participate in daily plant walk-throughs.
- Review and sign off on the daily pre-operation inspection. This includes inspection of belts, tools, and verification log, and sanitation.
- Review daily pallet tickets and file with the QA documentation on designated production lines.
- Review employee paperwork, making sure it is free of errors and mistakes.
- Perform regular quality checks on mixing procedures, codes, cooler-freezer temperatures, footbaths, and conduct appropriate follow-up with employees involved in these procedures.
- Perform an ingredient check-in and work with the Purchasing department to get discrepancies resolved.
- Monitor damaged ingredients and prepare non-conformance documentation, and make recommendations for disposal and/or repair.
- Conduct HACCP pre-shipment inspection.
- Assist with customer complaints, collect and organize all paperwork for review to initiate corrective action.
The Ideal Candidate will have the Following Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred. At least five years of Quality Assurance experience in a food manufacturing environment. Experience must entail development of written technical information, implementation of new programs, supervisory/management with staff development, and designing and executing training programs. Strong knowledge of inspection and control methods, techniques, and documentation, as well as theory and principles of statistical process control. Experience integrating Statistical Process Control Methods required.
- Experience with labeling of both FDA and USDA products and Nutritional Labeling requirements desired. Strong field knowledge of current software and process technology. Proficient in MS Office. Excellent verbal, technical writing, and interpersonal communication skills. An ability to break down highly technical discussions into understandable concepts for non-technical colleagues.
- Strong leadership ability and able to coach and mentor quality technicians at multiple plant locations. Physical and mental ability to work in excess of 45 hours per week while helping create and work towards a Quality vision.
Competencies and Skills:
- HS Graduate
- 1-3 Years of Experience, preferably in a food production setting
Physical Demands:
- May work near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to electrical shock, fumes, airborne particles, and vibration. The work environment requires the use of protective equipment relating to food safety and personal safety, such as, but not limited to, a sterilized uniform overcoat/smock, facial hair nets, safety glasses, and earplugs. Exposure to significant temperature fluctuations from various locations where work is performed. This work environment is fast paced in close proximity to others.
