Job description

Purpose of the Position

Leads an assigned production team to achieve goals and problem solve while demonstrating a commitment to employees safety, teamwork, and product quality. Responsible for product processing, packaging, and storage in compliance with FDA, USDA, and Simmons rules and regulations.

Essential Position Responsibilities
  • This is a Salary Exempt position.
  • Leads a team of front-line employees, effectively communicates, and motivates to drive productivity and achieve company goals.
  • Supervises employees to maintain discipline, teamwork, and safety, ensuring daily production requirements are met.
  • Responsible for scheduling, tracking attendance, and managing time off requests for direct reports.
  • Evaluates personnel performance and manages work efforts.
  • Coordinates activities of workers engaged in processing and product development.
  • Maintains inventory records and requisitions ingredients and supplies as needed.
  • Evaluates materials and products to maintain standards.
  • Collaborates with other supervisors to coordinate departmental activities.
  • Manages and utilizes production reports, reviews daily production against customer requirements, and manages reports related to throughput, yield, etc.
  • Ensures production meets requirements while maintaining line speed, efficiency, and quality.
  • Completes all paperwork within established time frames.
  • Promotes and creates a safe work environment, complying with all safety policies and regulations, including OSHA and food safety standards.
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement, applying LEAN principles to daily operations.
  • Ensures quality performance aligns with all relevant guidelines and customer expectations.
  • Communicates effectively across all levels to meet production goals.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources, Safety, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Finance, Shipping, and others.
  • Manages employees, including hiring, disciplinary actions, performance reviews, and compensation recommendations.
  • Develops and maintains positive employee relations, promoting teamwork and morale.
  • Participates as a team member in developing, communicating, and implementing policies and practices.
  • Supports Simmons’ operating systems principles and objectives, understanding the impact of individual actions on these systems.
  • Performs other duties as necessary to support business objectives.
Physical Activities and Requirements

Enters and locates information on a computer, visually verifies information, communicates with others, and may present to groups. Must work in various temperatures, move within the manufacturing environment, and use PPE as required. May travel to other facilities.

Technical and Industry Experience

Willingness to lead, proficiency in English, knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and management principles. Familiarity with computers and Microsoft Office. Industry experience in food processing preferred.
