Job Description: Production Supervisor
Leads an assigned production team to achieve goals and problem solve while demonstrating a commitment to employee safety, teamwork, and product quality. Responsible for product processing, packaging, and storage in compliance with FDA, USDA, and Simmons rules and regulations.
Essential Position Responsibilities - This is a Salary Exempt position.
- Team Leadership: Leads a team of front-line employees. Effectively communicates with and motivates employees to drive productivity and achieve company goals. Supervises employees to maintain discipline, teamwork, and safety, ensuring daily production requirements are met. Responsible for scheduling, tracking attendance, and reviewing and approving time off for direct reports. Conducts work effort and performance appraisals.
- Operations Management: Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in processing or product development. Maintains inventory records, requisitions ingredients and supplies, evaluates materials and products, and confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities between departments.
- Production Monitoring: Manages and utilizes various production reports, reviews daily production against customer requirements, interprets reports related to throughput, yield, etc., and ensures production meets requirements while maintaining quality and efficiency. Completes all paperwork timely and accurately.
- Safety and Compliance: Promotes a safe work environment and ensures compliance with policies and regulations set by Simmons, OSHA, and government agencies regarding safety, environment, food handling, packaging, and ingredients.
- Continuous Improvement: Fosters a culture of continuous improvement, applying LEAN principles to enhance processes and reduce waste. Ensures quality standards are met or exceeded, aligning with USDA/FDA guidelines and customer expectations.
- Communication and Collaboration: Communicates effectively across all levels, collaborates with various operational departments to maximize product quality and cost efficiency.
- Employee Management: Supervises employees’ work activities, monitors performance, collaborates with HR on hiring, disciplinary actions, and compensation decisions. Promotes positive morale and a harmonious work environment.
- Team Participation: Participates in team development, communication, and policy implementation, fostering cohesiveness and organizational synergy.
- System Knowledge: Familiar with Simmons’ operating systems, understands their importance, and communicates concerns or improvement ideas.
- Additional Duties: Performs other duties as necessary to support business objectives, demonstrating flexibility and initiative.
Physical Activities & PPE
Includes computer work, visual verification, communication, working in various temperatures, and moving within a manufacturing environment. PPE as required by the facility.
Travel & Technical Skills
May involve travel to other facilities. Must be willing to lead, read/write English, and possess knowledge of raw materials, production, quality control, costs, and management principles. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
Industry & Education Requirements
Preferred experience in food processing. Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or 4 years related experience including 1 year in a leadership role.
