Job summary

BorgWarner is seeking a Production Supervisor in Ithaca, NY to lead a manufacturing team and ensure safety, quality, on-time delivery, and cost targets. The role requires 3+ years of supervision in manufacturing, lean know-how, and shift availability for 2nd or 3rd shifts.

The ideal candidate will drive continuous improvements, coach staff, and uphold company policies while coordinating with the manufacturing manager on training needs and performance metrics.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years' experience in a manufacturing related position.
  • Supervisory experience in manufacturing preferred; automotive industry experience is a plus.
  • Willingness to work 2nd or 3rd shift.
  • Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing processes/procedures.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with safety and quality programs (Kaizen) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Above all, ensure a safe work environment.
  • Support and drive the lean manufacturing system; assign work; and implement improvements in methods, equipment, procedures, and working conditions.
  • Oversee all departmental activities and carry out supervisory responsibilities per policies and laws.

Job purpose

The Production Supervisor is responsible for effectively supervising employees in a designated area of manufacturing to ensure a safe work environment, meet production deadlines, and attain established goals in the areas of production quality, delivery, and cost.

Key accountabilities
  • Above all, ensure a safe work environment.
  • Support and drive the lean manufacturing system; assign work; and recommend and implement improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures, employee relations, and working conditions.
  • Oversee all departmental activities and carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and procedures and applicable laws.
  • Resolve employee issues, ensure positive employee relations, and promote and enforce all company policies fairly and consistently.
  • Responsible for area performance measures and individual employee work performance; provide coaching and direction to employees; and work with the manufacturing manager to identify development and/or training needs for employees.
  • Responsible for communication at all levels.
Salary

Salary ranges from $70,400 - $105,600 based on experience

What we are looking for
  • 3 + years' experience in a manufacturing related position required.
  • Supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred; experience in the automotive industry preferred.
  • Willingness to work 2nd or 3rd shift.
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of lean manufacturing processes/procedures required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications - Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.
  • Familiarity with proven safety programs or quality programs (i.e. Kaizen) a plus.
  • Knowledge of measuring devices i.e. micrometers, height stands, calipers.
