Job summary

Cirrus Aircraft is seeking an Aircraft Systems Engineer specializing in Powerplant Systems to design, develop, integrate, and certify propulsion systems with engine and/or propeller manufacturers for the SR and SF platforms and future programs.

The successful candidate will coordinate with subcontractors and external suppliers, lead cross-disciplinary propulsion teams, and ensure design-for-cost and manufacturability while adhering to FAR Part 23/25/33 requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 10 years of experience in mechanical and parachute systems is desired.
  • Direct management experience with teams of at least 5 people is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with other aircraft engineering disciplines across Cirrus Aircraft product platforms.
  • Partner with Advance Design & Development for NPIS projects and new technologies.
  • Coordinate with Project Engineers and Program Managers for staffing and technical guidance.
  • Lead multi-discipline propulsion system design development teams.
  • Identify, select, and coordinate with component and system suppliers.
  • Involved in development and certification of powerplant systems under FAR Part 23, 25, or 33.
  • Review industry guidance docs (SAE, ASTM, RTCA).
  • Manage design-for-cost, manufacturability, and serviceability initiatives.
  • Perform systems engineering process definition and execution.
  • Approve Creo 3D models and drawings of propulsion systems.
  • Approve test plans, reports, and certification documents.
  • Lead trade studies on weight, cost, reliability, manufacturability.

Overview

Cirrus Cirrus Aircraft is currently hiring an Aircraft Systems Engineer focused on Powerplant Systems. An engineer in this role is responsible for design, development, integration, and certification with engine and/or propeller manufacturers along with systems such as fire extinguishing, fire detection, engine controls, engine indications, powerplant cooling, fuel systems, induction, and exhaust on both the SR and SF platforms as well as new projects. Candidates will also be responsible for coordinating development and system integration work with subcontractors and external suppliers.

Responsibilities
  • Interface with other aircraft engineering functional disciplines, including structural and electrical disciplines, and across the Cirrus Aircraft product platforms and programs.
  • Work with Advance Design & Development team for introduction of new technologies and implementation into New Product Introduction System (NPIS) projects.
  • Work with and coordinate with Project Engineers and Program Managers for staff onboarding, offboarding, technical guidance, and performance management.
  • Work with a multi-discipline team on propulsion system design development.
  • Identify, select, and coordinate with component and system suppliers
  • Active involvement in development and certification of powerplant systems under FAR Part 23, Part 25, or Part 33.
  • Research industry guidance documents for best practices, e.g. SAE, ASTM, RTCA.
  • Manage design for cost, design for manufacturability, and serviceability initiatives
  • Perform systems engineering technical process definition and execution.
  • Check and/or approve 3D models and drawings of propulsion systems in Creo.
  • Check and/or approve documents including test plans and reports, certification reports, and other engineering documents.
  • Approve heat transfer analysis and fluid flow analysis with respect to system architectures and expected performance.
  • Lead the team to complete trade studies involving weight, cost, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills on technical issues and have a high level of initiative to fill gaps when necessary.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams).

Pay Range

Salary Range: USD $126,320.68/Yr. - USD $189,481.02/Yr.
