Job summary

Cobb EMC seeks a Supervisory, Power Control to lead monitoring, operation and integrity of the electrical distribution system in Georgia. You will direct power control operations, coordinate outages, and support field crews to ensure safe, reliable service for members.

The role requires rotating shifts including nights and weekends, strong SCADA/OMS skills, and proven supervisory experience. A focus on safety, record keeping, and timely communication is essential.

Qualifications

  • High School or equivalent.
  • Minimum one year experience as System Operator III or equivalent; knowledge of line feeds, system maps and work order procedures.
  • Good working knowledge of FCC rules and regulations.
  • Proficient with SCADA, OMS and Cobb EMC software for records.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor system conditions, identify and isolate faults, and coordinate power restoration.
  • Analyze SCADA alarms and take appropriate action.

  • Develop and lead the team, manage hiring, training, and scheduling.

Cobb EMC is seeking an experienced Supervisor, Power Control to oversee the monitoring, operation, control, and integrity of our electrical distribution system. In this critical leadership role, you will guide Power Control operations, support outage restoration, coordinate with field personnel, and help ensure members receive timely, accurate, and courteous service

Responsibilities
What You’ll Do
Lead Power Control Operations
  • Oversee the safe and effective operation of the electrical distribution system.
  • Originate, review, approve, and issue switching orders.
  • Monitor system conditions, identify and isolate faults, and coordinate power restoration.
  • Analyze SCADA alarms and take appropriate action based on system conditions.
  • Respond to emergencies involving transformers, distribution lines, and other system equipment.
  • Coordinate with engineers, planners, field personnel, and utility workers regarding clearances, switching orders, and system changes.
  • Partner with the SCADA/AMI team to help maintain accurate field-device information.
  • Maintain current knowledge of evolving system-protection schemes.
Maintain Accurate Records and Schedules
  • Monitor and maintain records associated with SCADA, control-room equipment, weather radar, radio communications, and the video wall map board.
  • Maintain required daily operational and security logs.
  • Ensure radio logs comply with FCC regulations.
  • Oversee the proper processing of outage reports.
  • Provide accurate monthly and annual trouble data for senior management.
  • Develop and maintain the department's 24/7 rotating work schedule.
Support Members and Field Teams
  • Monitor communications and ensure important information reaches the appropriate field locations.
  • Report unusual conditions to the appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure member inquiries are addressed promptly, courteously, and professionally.
  • Route complaints to the appropriate personnel during normal business hours.
Strengthen Operational Readiness
  • Monitor system loads and automated field devices.
  • Help oversee the operation of SCADA equipment.
  • Develop and maintain written Power Control procedures.
  • Create and maintain initial and ongoing training for System Operators.
  • Implement storm procedures when required.
  • Demonstrate Power Control functions to touring groups.
  • Maintain updated company information for public-relations purposes.
Develop and Lead the Team
  • Manage hiring, promotions, training, documentation, and other employment matters for department staff.
  • Coach employees through hands‑on guidance, reinforcement, and continued learning.
  • Manage daily workloads and employee schedules.
  • Conduct performance planning and review sessions.
  • Promote fair and consistent treatment across the department.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

High School or equivalent.

Minimum one year experience as System Operator III or equivalent. Excellent working knowledge of line feeds, system locations, interpretation of system maps, work order procedures, corporate policies and procedures.

Good working knowledge of FCC rules and regulations.

Successful completion of required training courses and assessments for advancement to this position.

SKILLS: Proficient with SCADA, OMS and the current Cobb EMC software for historical record keeping and reporting

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Demonstrated supervisory skills.

Ability to effectively communicate via two‑way radio.

Ability to effectively perform under pressure and in emergency situations.

Proficient in operating, testing and troubleshooting the Cobb EMC Electrical Distribution System including substation equipment, generators, and automated field device equipment via the SCADA system.

Proficiency with personal computers (i.e., current Windows operating system, Microsoft Word and Excel).

Proficient in maintaining accurate reports and records.

Proficient in performing outage analysis by feeder, recloser and other devices

Proficient in operating, testing and troubleshooting the Cobb EMC Electrical Distribution System including substation equipment, generators, and automated field device equipment via the SCADA system.

Possess valid Integrated Transmission System (ITS) Operator's Certification.

PREFERRED:

Associates Degree in Electrical, Electronics or related field
