Job summary

Trinity Health in Minot, ND seeks a Supervisor, Physician Education to lead provider documentation education, ensuring accurate Diagnosis and E/M coding and adherence to federal and payer guidelines in a collaborative, provider-facing environment.

Qualifications

  • Certification as CPC or CEMC from AAPC, or CCSP from AHIMA required.
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a health-related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of coding experience; supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise the provider documentation education program to support compliant coding.
  • Review provider documentation and coded encounters, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide direct feedback, coaching, and education to providers on documentation requirements and guideline updates.
  • Collaborate with revenue cycle, compliance, and operational leaders to resolve issues and drive process improvements.
  • Maintain documentation metrics, prepare reports, and support onboarding and competency development.

Position Summary:The Supervisor, Physician Education oversees the development and delivery of provider documentation education to support accurate, compliant Diagnosis and Evaluation & Management (E/M) code assignment across Trinity Health. This role monitors documentation quality, identifies trends that impact coding accuracy, and partners closely with providers and operational leadership to strengthen clinical documentation practices. Working in a highly collaborative, provider-facing environment, the supervisor supports timely documentation review and adherence to federal and payer-specific guidelines. Through structured education, clear communication, and consistent oversight, this position enhances coding accuracy, supports revenue cycle performance, and promotes transparent, standardized documentation practices.Key Responsibilities:Coordinate and supervise the provider documentation education program, ensuring that training materials and educational sessions support compliant coding and accurate clinical documentation.Review provider documentation and coded encounters, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement to maintain high levels of coding accuracy and regulatory compliance.Provide direct feedback, coaching, and education to providers on documentation requirements, practice patterns, and guideline updates affecting Diagnosis and E/M code assignment.Collaborate with revenue cycle, compliance, and operational leaders to resolve documentation issues, support process improvements, and maintain alignment with federal guidelines.Maintain documentation metrics, track provider performance, and prepare reports that support continuous improvement and organizational accountability.Support onboarding and ongoing competency development for providers related to documentation standards, coding accuracy, and regulatory changes.Licenses and Certifications Required:Certification as a Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Evaluation and Management Coder (CEMC) from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), or Certification as a Clinical Coding Specialist Physician (CCSP) through American Health Information Management Association.Educational Requirements:Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in health related field preferred.Experience Requirements:Minimum 5 years of coding Previous supervisory experience preferredSpecial Skills or Training Requirements:N/APhysical Requirements:The Supervisor, Physician Education works primarily in an office and clinical setting with prolonged periods of sitting, computer work, and provider interaction. Occasional walking between clinical locations and meeting spaces is required. Adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity are essential for reviewing documentation, analyzing data, and preparing educational materials.Environmental Requirements:Work is performed in a professional healthcare environment with regular interaction across clinical departments, administrative offices, and provider work areas. The position requires adherence to privacy standards, data security protocols, and organizational policies. Frequent deadlines, shifting priorities, and a high level of accuracy are expected, along with the ability to communicate effectively in fast-paced or high-volume settings.
