Job summary

McLaren Port Huron is seeking an experienced Nurse Leader to guide patient care operations during nightly shifts. You will mentor staff, manage staffing, and ensure compliance with nursing policies while optimizing patient flow and safety across units.

Requirements include an Associate degree in Nursing, an active Michigan RN license, and BLS/ACLS certification. A BSN is preferred, with opportunities to advance within the McLaren Health Care system.

Qualifications

• Two years of nursing experience required.
• Current State of Michigan RN license.
• BLS and ACLS certification (or Canadian equivalent).
• Graduate of a Nursing program.

Job description

Position Summary

Guides and mentors the staff in daily activities of decision making for patient care, bed access and family dynamics. Serves as a resource to staff during the scheduled shift. Assumes daily functioning of the Patient Care Service areas in accordance with established hospital and nursing policies, procedures and standards. Plans, implements, coordinates and evaluates staffing and patient care. Initiates and/or participates in corrective action process and personal development plan.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Operations
• Ensures quality and efficiency in the assigned Patient Care Service units, on a shift to shift basis.
• Monitors and modifies patient flow within the departments to maximize efficiency, maintain quality, and promote patient satisfaction.
• Functions as the liaison between the Nursing units, all in house nursing units and ancillary departments.
• Adjusts and allocates nursing assignments to meet the needs of the department.
• Assures the reporting, handling, and documentation of all patient incidents, variances in patient care, issues related to substandard quality of care, safety issues, and actual or potential litigation or media situations, occurring during their shift.
• Keeps management and staff informed of work-related matters on a regular basis.
• Clinical
• Functions as a role model and mentor to all staff.
• Assists with all aspects of patient care on an as-needed basis.
• Knowledgeable with all equipment, supplies, forms and procedures utilized on the nursing units. (or unit specific, as applicable)
• Customer Service
• Aware of who our customers are - patients, patient families, physicians and anyone requiring the services of McLaren Port Huron.
• Ensures quality customer service.
• Empowers and encourages to address and rectify customer concerns at the time of occurrence in a manner that is acceptable to the customer and the hospital.
• Knowledgeable with community resources and referral agencies for customers in need of shelter, food, medications, and follow-up medical care.(May be unit specific, as appropriate).
• Pro-active in meeting the needs of the patients, families, physicians and staff.
• Performs other related job duties as requested.

Required

• Associates degree. Graduate of a Nursing program.
• Two (2) years of prior work experience in nursing
• Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse Michigan RN license
• BLS and ACLS certification and/or Canadian equivalent

Preferred

• Bachelor’s degree in Science in Nursing
• Three (3) years of prior work experience in nursing or Charge Nurse work experience
