Position Overview

We are seeking a Supervisor, Paralegal Services to join our Firm. This position will be based in our DC office (hybrid). The Supervisor will oversee day-to-day activities of the Paralegal Services team, work with the Director of Paralegal Services to oversee the progress of ongoing projects and initiatives, and serve as a key liaison between paralegals and attorneys.

Responsibilities
  • Supervises day-to-day activities of the Paralegal Services team (“the team”).
  • Works with the Director of Paralegal Services to oversee the progress of ongoing projects and initiatives.
  • Responsible for department administration, recruiting, staff oversight, training and employee development, performance management, and general process improvement in the DC office (in partnership with the Office Administrative Director).
  • Coordinates and oversees department projects, day-to-day operations, and long-range plans.
  • Oversees paralegals across practice groups: transactional, regulatory, and litigation practice areas.
  • Coordinates daily workflow, distributes assignments, oversees workloads, and monitors utilization.
  • Develops and communicates departmental guidelines and procedures and implements departmental goals and objectives.
  • Works with the Administrative Coordinator and Team Leaders to monitor administrative responsibilities of paralegals including time entries, expense reports, attendance, absence requests, and overtime, ensuring accuracy and compliance with firm policies.
  • Manages and addresses staffing requests efficiently including last-minute and off-hour requests, coordinating with other offices as needed.
  • Coordinates notary and apostille requests.
  • Oversees the Mentor Program.
  • Ensures accurate and timely responses to requests for departmental services.
  • Consults with attorneys and works closely with Management to ensure proper daily and long-term workflow and assignments of attorney/paralegal teams.
  • Participates in the interviewing, selection, and training process.
  • Coordinates training and team building initiatives in collaboration with the global Paralegal Management team.
  • Effectively utilizes the Firm's performance management process to communicate performance expectations, monitor performance, coach employees, and manage unsatisfactory performance.
  • Recommends and participates in disciplinary procedures in collaboration with the People Team.
  • Provides ongoing guidance to paralegals on case management best practices and training initiatives.
  • Identifies issues and workplace needs and communicates them to Paralegal Management.
  • Recommends guidelines and practices to promote efficiency, effectiveness, excellent customer service, and improved employee relations, in alignment with the Firm's Core Values.
  • Ensures current knowledge of Firm policies and practices for staff, industry trends, and continued professional development for business services professionals.
  • Assists with preparing and monitoring department budgets, ensuring vendors provide cost‑effective services.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships with others.
  • Manages Firm resources responsibly.
  • Maintains a regular and reliable physical presence.
  • Complies with and understands Firm operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Actively seeks to enhance knowledge of and familiarity with all procedures and Firm software and applications.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the litigation process and case management skills, as well as familiarity with corporate transactions in order to provide case-work guidance.
  • Ability to effectively supervise others.
  • Current knowledge of industry best practices, trends, and techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant Firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and project management and database applications, with the ability to learn new software and operating systems.
  • Knowledge and implementation of the annual budget process.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree. Minimum of five years of paralegal or other related experience, including two years of leadership and case coordination experience.

Salary Details

Starting base salary for this position is expected to be within the range listed under Salary Details: $135,000 - $150,000. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other job‑related factors, consistent with applicable law.
