Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health seeks a Supervisor of Lab Support Services at All Saints Medical Center Ft Worth, TX. This role oversees routine activities in the Laboratory Support Services department, including Specimen Processing, Newborn Screen processing, and Client Services.

The supervisor assists with hiring, training, performance counseling, payroll, and policy development as defined by hospital policy.

Qualifications

• Must have at least 3 years of phlebotomy leadership experience in a high-volume lab.
• Knowledge of laboratory regulations, protocols, and procedures.
• Ability to supervise staff, train, and evaluate performance.

Responsibilities

• Provides on-site supervision and troubleshooting for specimen receiving and processing.
• Manages referral testing and client services, coordinating with the Manager as needed.
• Communicates with physicians, nurses, and clients about patient testing needs.
• Coordinates with telecommunication personnel on-site and at referral labs about issues and upgrades.
• Assists in monitoring reports, inputting charges and credits, and LIS/HIS related tasks.
• Develops and enforces policies and procedures for lab sections and staff scheduling.

Job Summary

The Supervisor of Lab Support Services oversees routine activities in the Laboratory Support Services department. This includes Specimen Processing, Newborn Screen processing, Referral testing, and Client Services. Assists the manager with staff hiring, training, performance/counseling, payroll, and other duties as defined by policy.

Essential Functions Of The Role

• Provides on-site supervision and troubleshooting for specimen receiving and processing. Manages referral testing and client services, communicating with the Manager as needed. Acts as a role model and resource for duties in the assigned support area.
• Provides expertise for communicating with physicians, nurses, and clients about patient testing needs. Communicate with telecommunication personnel on-site and at referral labs about problems and upgrades. Also, communicate for HIS and LIS changes or upgrades. Assists the Manager in monitoring computer reports and inputting charges and credits.
• Communicates, collaborates, and acts as a liaison with support staff, management, and the health care team to ensure service continuity and coordination.
• Provide information to the Lab Manager for all test updates that need communication through the Baylor Laboratory Information System.
• Establishes service priorities, work routines, work flow patterns, and monitors work flow to assure prompt and efficient delivery of services.
• Assists the Manager in the development of policies and procedures related to the laboratory section functions, staffing and scheduling.
• Recommends hiring and termination of staff. Orients, trains, counsels, and monitors safety and BLN lessons for the staff. May perform evaluation, scheduling, and payroll functions, if needed.
• Assists with orientation of new hires in their section as well as LIS and HIS processes.
• Assists with BUMC/BSWH required training/testing as well as that of the Pathology department.
