Job summary

City of Chicago's Department of Family and Support Services, Senior Services, is seeking a Supervisor of Family Support Programs to lead supervisory staff, program coordinators, and other professionals in planning, implementing, and evaluating senior services.

Located at 78 E. Washington, the role runs Monday–Friday 9:00am–5:00pm; the position is exempt from career service and offers a starting salary of $85,548 yearly with opportunities to advance as budgets permit.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree plus four years of experience in planning/administration of a social or community service program, including one year in a management/supervisory role.
  • Master's degree plus three years of experience in planning/administration of a social or community service program, including one year in a supervisory role.
  • Associate's degree plus six years of experience in planning/administration of a social or community service program, including one year in a supervisory role.
  • Eight years of work experience in planning/administration of a social or community service program, including one year in a supervisory role.

Responsibilities

  • Directs day-to-day senior center operations to meet program goals and objectives.
  • Plans and manages work schedules to ensure adequate coverage of senior center programming.
  • Monitors and provides technical assistance and direction to staff, contracted agencies and partners.
  • Convenes and coordinates meetings with staff and partners to resolve issues and improve performance.
  • Compiles program reports, including monthly reports from contracted agencies, identifying trends.
  • Coordinates and implements ongoing staff training.
  • Works with staff to generate site operation reports.
  • Conducts outreach, meetings, and engages social service agencies and community groups.

Under general supervision, functions as a mid-level manager responsible for overseeing supervisory staff, program coordinators, and/or other professional-level program staff responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of various social service programs to address the needs of varied demographic groups.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Directs day-to-day senior center operations to ensure program goals and objectives are met.
  • Plans and manages work schedules to ensure adequate coverage of senior center programming and other activities.
  • Monitors and provides technical assistance and direction to staff, contracted agencies and other program partners.
  • Convenes, coordinates, and facilitates meetings and other communications with staff, contracted agencies, and other partners, as needed to resolve operational issues, share best practices, and improve program performance
  • Compiles program reports, including monthly reports from contracted agencies, identifying trends, and ensuring efficient and effective program delivery
  • Coordinates and implements appropriate on-going training for staff.
  • Works with staff to generate needed reports for site operations.
  • Conducts outreach, convenes meetings, and engages social service agencies, organizations, and community groups.

Additional duties may be required for this position

Hours: 9:00am - 5:00pm

THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM THE CAREER SERVICE

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in the Social Sciences, Education, Human Services, Gerontology, Psychology, Public Health, or a directly related field PLUS, four (4) years of experience in the planning and administration of a social or community service program, of which one (1) year is in a management/supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position, OR
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree or higher in the Social Sciences, Education, Human Services, Gerontology, Psychology, Public Health, or a directly related field PLUS, three (3) years of experience in the planning and administration of a social or community service program, of which one (1) year is in a management/supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position, OR
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in the Social Sciences, Education, Human Services, Gerontology, Psychology, Public Health, or a directly related field PLUS, six (6) years of experience in the planning and administration of a social or community service program, of which one (1) year is in a management/supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position, OR
  • Eight (8) years of work experience in the planning and administration of a social or community service program, of which one (1) year is in a management/supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position based on the oral parts of the interview will be selected.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following
  • Previous experience working in a senior center or similar community-based setting and developing, coordinating, and delivering programs for older adults.
  • Previous experience working with the diverse needs and interests of seniors and facilitating engaging recreational, educational, social, health and wellness, and supportive-service activities.
  • Previous experience providing technical assistance to delegate agencies, volunteers, vendors and team members
  • Prior experience building community partnerships, encouraging participant engagement, and maintaining a welcoming and safe environment for program participants.
  • Previous experience managing Social Services programs with an emphasis on Senior Services or the aging population
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a senior center or similar community center setting.
  • Previous experience building community partnerships, encouraging participant engagement, and maintaining a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment for older adults or program participants.

Salary: $85,548/Annually

Pay Basis: Yearly
