Job summary

Advocate Health seeks a Nursing Supervisor (RN) for the Ortho Spine ENT Joint Surgical units at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee.

The role leads staff, coordinates resources, and ensures smooth patient flow in a 40-hour-per-week full-time schedule with PM-NOC coverage and weekend rotations. The ideal candidate has a BSN, an accredited nursing program completion, and an RN license, plus BLS certification and at least 3 years of RN experience.

  • RN license issued by the state of practice.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide work directions to staff and coordinate resources for procedures and patient flow.

  • Overlap with day shift coverage to allow development and coaching with Patient Care Manager

We’re Looking For

  • RN who is passionate about helping others as a resource
  • Desires to develop leadership skills and be part of a collaborative leadership team
  • Strong collaborative practice with staff and leadership
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
  • Candidates must have at least 3 years of RN experience, this position is not for new grads
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
What You’ll Do
  • Provides work directions to the staff with clear responsibility for the coordination of resources to efficiently support procedures, day-to-day operations and the smooth flow of patients through the department.
  • Promotes an environment conducive to the delivery of quality patient care. Advocates for rights of patients and staff.
  • Promote communication among patients, families, hospital departments, and medical staff to optimize the interdependence of all team members. Coordinates the needs of physicians and acts as liaison between the medical staff and the nursing staff by serving as a problem solver and mediator.
  • Develop and maintain effective intra- and inter-departmental relationships. Facilitates positive communication with medical supply companies and their representatives.
  • Evaluates the quality of patient care provided in the specialty area through collaboration with unit and organization resource people. Ensuring policies and procedures are following those of the medical center, the nursing department, and regulatory agencies.
  • In collaboration with the manager, conducts ongoing process improvement.
  • Serves as a clinical resource contact for patients, families, nursing staff, other health care members and external agencies.
  • In collaboration with departmental and organizational staff, develops department orientation and continuing education programs for all staff. Teach and guide staff. Assists with various teaching programs.
  • Provides input regarding equipment/supply needs, renovations, and environmental issues in preparation of operating and capital equipment budgets.
  • Supports Shared Leadership and its functions related to Nursing Evaluation, Peer Review, Policy/Procedures, and Standards of Nursing Practice.
  • Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which includes coaching on performance, completes performance reviews and overall staff morale. Recommends hiring, compensation changes, promotions, corrective action decisions, and terminations.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders and twist frequently during work shift.
  • Will be exposed to the following hazards on a continuous basis: mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood and body fluids; will be required to wear gloves, goggles and gowns on an as-needed basis.
