Job summary

Aurora Health Care is seeking a Nursing Supervisor (RN) for the Ortho Spine ENT Joint Surgical units at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee. The role focuses on leading staff, coordinating resources, and advancing patient care in a fast-paced surgical setting.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in nursing, completion of an accredited program, and at least 3 years of RN experience with an active RN license in the state. BLS certification is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited program.
• RN license in the practicing state.
• 3+ years of RN experience; not for new grads.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers required by the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

• Provides work directions to staff and coordinates resources for procedures and daily operations.
• Promotes quality patient care and advocates for patient and staff rights.
• Facilitates communication among patients, families, departments and physicians; serves as liaison and problem solver.
• Develops and maintains inter- and intra-departmental relationships; liaises with medical supply reps.
• Evaluates care quality in the specialty area and ensures compliance with policies and regulatory standards.
• Engages in ongoing process improvement with management oversight.
• Serves as clinical resource contact for patients, families and staff.
• Develops orientation and continuing education programs; teaches and guides staff.
• Advises on equipment/supply needs and participates in budget preparation for operating and capital equipment.
• Supports Shared Leadership and Nursing practice standards; performs HR duties including coaching and performance reviews.

We’re Looking For

• RN who is passionate about helping others as a resource
• Desires to develop leadership skills and be part of a collaborative leadership team
• Strong collaborative practice with staff and leadership
• Bachelor's degree in nursing
• Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
• Candidates must have at least 3 years of RN experience, this position is not for new grads
• Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association

What You’ll Do

• Provides work directions to the staff with clear responsibility for the coordination of resources to efficiently support procedures, day-to-day operations and the smooth flow of patients through the department.
• Promotes an environment conducive to the delivery of quality patient care. Advocates for rights of patients and staff.
• Promote communication among patients, families, hospital departments, and medical staff to optimize the interdependence of all team members. Coordinates the needs of physicians and acts as liaison between the medical staff and the nursing staff by serving as a problem solver and mediator.
• Develop and maintain effective intra- and inter-departmental relationships. Facilitates positive communication with medical supply companies and their representatives.
• Evaluates the quality of patient care provided in the specialty area through collaboration with unit and organization resource people. Ensuring policies and procedures are following those of the medical center, the nursing department, and regulatory agencies.
• In collaboration with the manager, conducts ongoing process improvement.
• Serves as a clinical resource contact for patients, families, nursing staff, other health care members and external agencies.
• In collaboration with departmental and organizational staff, develops department orientation and continuing education programs for all staff. Teach and guide staff. Assists with various teaching programs.
• Provides input regarding equipment/supply needs, renovations, and environmental issues in preparation of operating and capital equipment budgets.
• Supports Shared Leadership and its functions related to Nursing Evaluation, Peer Review, Policy/Procedures, and Standards of Nursing Practice.
• Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which includes coaching on performance, completes performance reviews and overall staff morale. Recommends hiring, compensation changes, promotions, corrective action decisions, and terminations.
