Job Summary
Job Description Overview

The Supervisor – Code Nuisance Abatement oversees, supervises, directs, and facilitates various maintenance activities that include landscaping, bulk trash removal, litter removal, graffiti abatement, open and vacant structure closure, and illegal dumping mitigation citywide. This supervisor will be familiar with maintenance and proper use of various types of heavy equipment to include rear loader trash trucks, bobcats, combo roto booms, tractors, and brush truck trailers. This supervisor will need to have a good understanding of salesforce field services application and be proficient in scheduling abatement cases citywide.

Essential Functions
  • Implements plans and schedules and determines objectives needing emphasis; communicates with management about special projects or specific actions needing to be done; ensures all equipment and supplies are available and ordered for crew leaders and laborers or other tradesmen performing maintenance work.
  • Assigns and evaluates workers and the use of heavy equipment and materials to complete necessary tasks; directs and coordinates work through crew leaders, or team leaders; provides coaching or technical direction as needed.
  • Ensures production goals are met in a timely manner and works to increase productivity; checks and monitors for cleanliness of tools and equipment; directs, supervises, and oversees the clean-up activities around the work site to leave premises clean and safe.
  • Provides quality customer service by communicating effectively with customers and responding to issues or concerns timely and professionally.
  • Provides on the job training and leadership to ensure quality of maintenance work; assists with timecards and general time keeping and delegates assignments as needed; attends and participates in various professional development opportunities and encourages training and other development for staff.
  • Estimates personnel needs and assigns work to meet completion dates.
  • Finds, recommends, and implements methods to improve production or effectiveness; ensures all disposal activities are done in accordance with state and federal guidelines and procedures.
  • Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

  • Knowledge of municipal, state, and federal regulations.
  • Knowledge of city mandates, including protocols, policies, and procedures.

  • Ability to interpret, educate, and make recommendations to correct maintenance issues.

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to interpret, educate, and make recommendations to correct maintenance issues.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships.
  • Ability to operate a variety of simple to complex power tools or power equipment used in bulk trash removal or landscaping.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a wide variety of people.
  • Ability to use and instruct in the use of various types of hand tools, power tools, precision testing, and/or troubleshooting equipment.
  • Ability to handle emergency situations and provide direction.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Five (5) years of experience in code compliance, equipment operation (backhoes, front-end loaders, roto-booms, tractors, bobcats, trash trucks, etc.), and/or grounds maintenance, including at least two (2) years of supervisory responsibilities.
Equivalencies
  • Associate degree (or higher) in any field plus three (3) years of the required experience, including one (1) year of the stated lead work and/or supervisory responsibilities, will meet the education and experience requirements.
License and Certifications
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Must be able to obtain Texas Code Enforcement Officer Certification issued by the Texas Department of Licensing Regulation (TDLR) within the probationary period.
Salary Range

$27.45 - $32.58

The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
