Job description

Directly oversees and is responsible for the technical work of the department; responsible for the operational readiness of equipment, instruments, and personnel necessary to meet the daily delivery of testing services. Meets client expectations in delivery of testing services.

Shift: First Shift

Pay Range: All job offers will be based on a candidate's skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.

Essential Job Duties:

Managerial and Leadership duties and responsibilities:

  • Supervises the day-to-day production and non-production activities of the local departmental employees.
  • Directly monitors the quality of testing services provided by employees under supervision. Assigns appropriately trained personnel and ensures sufficient staffing to complete the workload.

Supervision:

  • Schedules department personnel to match the demands of the daily workflow within the supervised area.
  • Provides direct supervision to employees, including assignments, technical and behavioral performance counseling, and troubleshooting.
  • Schedules and supervises all non-production activities and obligations, such as validations, surveys, etc.
  • Supports the department manager as needed, including acting as manager during absences.

Performance Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Ensures quality and timely performance of activities under supervision.
  • Reports performance against targets and standards.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance within supervision.
  • Communicates standards, guidelines, and information to staff.
  • Ensures on-time delivery of reports and responses to inquiries.
  • Participates in client visits, audits, and inquiries as necessary.

Personnel:

  • Recruits, trains, and contributes to retention efforts.
  • Conducts technical training and development of staff.
  • Supports resource assessment and planning.
  • Evaluates employee performance.
  • Works with the manager on training and development plans.

External Client-related Duties:

  • Supports marketing and sales efforts to meet client testing requests.

Experience: Minimum Required:

  • 4 years of laboratory experience following clinical training, with at least 6 months in Microbiology.
  • Prior supervisory or management experience preferred.

Education/Qualifications/Certifications and Licenses:

Required:

  • BS degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related Life Science plus 4 years of clinical testing experience.

Or

  • Medical Technology degree with 4 years of clinical testing experience.

Preferably with professional certification (e.g., ASCP, AABB).
