Position Summary:
Supervises or performs maintenance tasks such as replacement, installation, alteration, adjustment, repair, and planned maintenance to ensure reliable and efficient operation of healthcare, academic, and research facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead maintenance team to ensure work orders are completed according to standards and safety procedures.
- Monitor ongoing work and provide reports.
- Stay informed of details beyond work orders and maintain good relations with departments.
- Respond to inquiries about work orders.
- Assign tasks and set priorities.
- Communicate rules and safety regulations.
- Verify vendor proposals and invoices.
- Create detailed instructions for tasks.
- Provide daily status updates.
- Make technical decisions regarding work assignments and safety.
- Recommend staffing, materials, schedules, and policy changes.
- Guide and assist department personnel.
- Carry and respond to university communication devices as needed.
- This is an essential position, requiring reporting during emergencies to support clinical services and protect assets.
- Manage HR activities for team members: recruiting, hiring, training, performance reviews, and compensation.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Certifications/Skills:
One or more of the following, or 5+ years relevant experience:
- Current Texas Master or Journeyman Electrician license
- Master or Journeyman Plumbing license (Texas)
- Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors license (Texas)
- Completion of an approved Millwright or similar apprenticeship or NCCER certification
- Associates degree or certification in instrumentation technology
- City of Houston Stationary Engineer License
Minimum Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum Experience:
Seven years of related experience, including five years in supervision. Experience in large-scale maintenance preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, or negligible constant effort to move objects.
Security Sensitive:
This position may be security sensitive per Texas Education Code § 51.215.
Residency Requirement:
Must reside and work in Texas permanently.
