We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Phlebotomy Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of our Inpatient Phlebotomy Department. Job Summary:Responsible for laboratory operations in the technical areas within the Hospitals and Clinics of the Advocate Health enterprise, including department, discipline, and/or shift oversight. Supervises the implementation of enterprise laboratory strategies and standards through collaboration with site leaders. Ensures peak laboratory operations by optimizing resources, financial performance, growth, safety, teammate engagement, and quality to meet Advocate Health goals. Plans, monitors, and implements laboratory operations in a cost-effective, quality, and service-oriented manner.

How You’ll Impact Patient Care:

Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing the day-to-day department operations, providing guidance and oversight to staff. Oversees non-clinical laboratory activities, including phlebotomy, specimen management, and waived testing.
  • Participating in projects to meet strategic initiatives, including implementing and developing quantitative outcomes.
  • Monitoring budget compliance, analyzing fiscal needs, and departmental performance, and addressing variances.
  • Collaborating on performance improvement processes to enhance teammate engagement, and physician and patient satisfaction.
  • Ensuring compliance with quality, regulatory, accreditation, and competency standards. Maintaining adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Coordinating staff orientation, training, and competency testing. Serving as the primary resource for staff development.
  • Implementing quality indicators, documenting, and taking corrective actions as needed.
  • Coaching, developing, and motivating team members. Managing performance, recognition, feedback, and disciplinary actions. Handling hiring, promotions, and terminations.
  • Upholding the organization's ethical standards and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and policies.

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory sciences, medical technology, or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of experience in laboratory services and operations.
  • Laboratory bench tech experience required.
  • MLS certification required.
  • Prior supervisory experience required.

Nice To Have (Not Required):

  • Leadership skills including project management, decision making, delegation, team building, customer service, and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to grow leaders through coaching and development planning.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance, accreditation, and licensing requirements.
  • Current knowledge of medical and technical advancements.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including laboratory information systems.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
