Wake Forest University School of Medicine is seeking a Sr. Laboratory Animal Technician Supervisor to oversee the Animal Resources Program Facilities and coordinate with the Operations Manager to ensure regulatory compliance.

The role involves supervising technicians, interviewing applicants, coaching staff, and addressing issues within the facilities, with emphasis on adherence to federal rules and AAALAC guidelines. Weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with three years as a Senior Laboratory Animal Technician or equivalent experience, or AALAS LAT certification.
• Valid state driver's license; AALAS certification preferred.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under general supervision, oversees the day-to-day operation of the Wake Forest University Animal Resources Program Facilities. Coordinates work with the Operations Manager to assure compliance with federal regulations and Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care guidelines.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• High School diploma or GED equivalent with three years as a Senior Laboratory Animal Technician or equivalent experience, or Certified American Association Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) Laboratory Animal Technologist.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:

• Valid applicable state driver's license. American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) certification preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Capable of performing and directing all duties as specified for Sr. LAT position.
• Supervises, schedules, and determines the work priorities of Laboratory Animal Technicians (LATT, LAT, & SR LAT).
• Interviews animal technician applicants and recommends employee selection.
• Provides coaching to animal technicians to facilitate excellent work performance. Assist Operations Manager with disciplinary issues.
• Monitors facilities and procedures for compliance to federal regulations and the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.
• Addresses complaints and assists with resolving problems within the Animal Resources Program facilities.
• Analyzes animal husbandry work processes and methods to assure optimal effectiveness. 8. Serves as liaison to the research community.
