Job description

Montefiore Medical Center - Blood Bank Laboratory Supervisor

Montefiore Medical Center's Division of Clinical Pathology is responsible for laboratory testing of blood, urine, and body fluids for disease diagnosis and health maintenance. The division operates state-of-the-art automated equipment across multiple sites, serving hospitals, nursing homes, medical groups, and physicians' offices.

This position oversees daily shift operations, including staff supervision, scheduling, material management (including blood inventory), and quality review to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities:

1. Evaluate and assign technical work daily, directing work processes throughout the shift.
2. Perform technical or clerical tasks as needed.
3. Conduct quality control for tests, reagents, and equipment, and assist with process validation.
4. Manage personnel scheduling and review payroll if using Kronos.
5. Train staff and residents.
6. Ensure accuracy and timeliness of work.
7. Conduct annual competency assessments and performance evaluations of technical staff.
8. Assess blood inventory, reagents, and supplies; place orders as necessary.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's Degree required.
2. NYS Department of Education Clinical Laboratory Technologist license required.
3. Four years of bench experience as a CLT for supervisor eligibility (two years can be substituted with a master's degree in Science or Arts).
4. Understanding of massive transfusion protocols.
5. Experience with neonatal transfusions.

This position is located at the Moses campus in the Blood Bank lab. It is a per diem role with shifts scheduled during the day or evening based on departmental needs.
