Job summary

Trinity Health is seeking a Pharmacy leader to oversee the 24-hour operation of the Inpatient Pharmacy Department in Dubuque, IA. You will guide staff, ensure quality care, meet budgets, and align with hospital mission.

Responsibilities include assisting the Pharmacy Director with strategic goals, maintaining regulatory compliance, and collaborating with clinicians to optimize drug distribution and patient safety.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy required.
  • Must be a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Iowa in good standing or eligible for registration.
  • Five years’ experience in hospital pharmacy with admin/leadership experience preferred.
  • Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training required within 6 months of hire and every 5 years thereafter.
  • Registers with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy as Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) and ensures responsibilities followed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Internet.

  • Develops and administers department policies to comply with laws and accrediting bodies.
  • Manages budgets, staffing, and payroll for inpatient pharmacy staff.
  • Works with leadership to improve pharmacy services for medical staff and nursing personnel.

Responsible for the 24-hour operation of the Inpatient Pharmacy Department. Responsible for achieving established quality and financial budget outcomes. Selects, develops, and maintains a team of competent staff. Holds self and team accountable for achieving the highest level of quality of care, customer service, and employee satisfaction, and recognizes the contribution for desired results. Driven to meet and exceed customer expectations.


Will assist the Pharmacy Director in setting the long- and short-range goals of the Pharmacy based on developments and trends in an institutional pharmacy practice and the specific needs of the institution and its patients .

  • Knows and adheres to all Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to the practice of Pharmacy in Iowa as well as patient health, safety and medical information.


  • Develops, secures approval of, implements, monitors adherence to, and administers departmental policies and procedures, and ensures they are in compliance with all federal and state (and other accrediting bodies) laws and regulations.


  • Recommends and implements agreed-upon long- and short-term departmental goals and objectives in order to enhance department services. These goals are aligned with corporate goals and objectives .


  • Prepares, secures approval of, and administers departmental capital expense and operating budgets. Monitors adherence to budgets and initiates corrective action as necessary.


  • Develops and administers all pharmacy programs and services, ensuring prompt and accurate preparation and distribution of drugs and other pharmaceuticals to patients.


  • Evaluates new pharmaceutical drugs, supplies, and equipment, and communicates these findings to the Pharmacy Director and other hospital leadership as applicable. Makes recommendations for acquisition of new or additional pharmacy equipment and supplies.


  • Along with the Pharmacy Director - interviews, hires, evaluates the performance of, and when necessary, disciplines and discharges associates.


  • Oversees scheduling for all inpatient pharmacy staff.


  • Manages timecards and approves payrolls for all inpatient pharmacy staff.


  • Develops and maintains a quality control program, ensuring department functions in accordance with all Hospital standards, government and accrediting agency regulations, and the like.


  • Effectively interacts with pharmacy personnel, physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals to solve problems in drug distribution and administration.


  • Develops and implements programs to improve the service of Pharmacy to the Medical Staff and Nursing personnel.


  • Works with the Shared Services Coordinator to develop, maintain and safely deliver contracted remote pharmacy verification services.


  • Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.


  • Performs the responsibilities of a Staff Pharmacist in their absence or as necessary.


General Requirements:


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy required . Advanced education such as Pharm.D. Degree or Master of Science degree in Hospital Pharmacy with equivalent curriculum preferred.


  • Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training isrequired within 6 months of hire and every 5 years thereafter.


  • Registerswith the Iowa Board of Pharmacy as Pharmacist in Charge (PIC)and assures that all aspects of that responsibility are followed.


  • Must be a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Iowa in good standing or eligible for registration.


  • Fiveyears’ experiencein hospital pharmacy with experience in administration, supervision or other leadership or management role preferred.


  • High levelof proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Internet .
