Job summary

Metalico Buffalo Inc. is hiring a Supervisor Trainee to learn the business from the ground up and lead day-to-day operations at the Buffalo location. Training will be provided and no prior scrap metal experience is required.

The role focuses on supervising, guiding, and coordinating work to meet production goals and ensure safety and quality standards. The position offers a full-time schedule with hours Mon-Fri 7:00 AM-4:00 PM and occasional Saturdays, with compensation of $20-24 per hour based

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• 2-year minimum operational management training experience preferred.
• Heavy Equipment skills a plus (forklift, skidsteer, loader, material handlers).
• Scrap Metal Knowledge and Experience a plus.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Outlook, and Word a plus.
• Willingness to learn in a fast paced, inclement weather, dirty work environment.
• Must be able to effectively communicate with customers.
• Must be able to work a full week & half day Saturdays as needed.

Responsibilities

• Support operations management for all ferrous and non-ferrous units with the objective of maintaining a safe, organized, and tidy facility.
• Recommend ways to maximize profits, meet quality standards, set production goals, and build teamwork.
• Evaluate the safety/environmental needs and make recommendations to the Assistant General Manager.
• Review and make recommendations to the Assistant General Manager for the quality of finished products.
• Ensure adherence to customer specifications and make recommendations to expand margins.
• Assist Yard Manager with employee training regarding operating and maintaining equipment.
• Become familiar with all processing operations and costs and make recommendations as needed.
• Review/develop Standard Operating Procedures for operations and make recommendations as needed.
• Conduct themselves with professionalism and be responsive to all internal and external customers.
• Handle disputes in a timely and effective manner protecting Metalico interests.
• Manage the employee's day-to-day duties and set up daily assignments for yard/plant staff.
• Use of company assets effectively and meeting customer needs continuously.
• Follow Metalico Code of Business Conduct and participate in trainings for growth.
• Responsible for planning and requesting capital needs and efficient use of space for inventory.

LOCATION: 127 Fillmore Ave., Buffalo, NY 14210
HOURS: Monday-Friday 7:00 AM-4:00 PM, Saturdays as needed

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Supervisor in Training position is to learn our business from the ground up. We will train the right person, no scrap metal experience necessary, however the ideal candidate must possess the following work qualifications highlighted below. The purpose of this position is to supervise, manage, guide and influence day-to-day operational activities for the Metalico Buffalo location. This position will be responsible for planning and communicating their business vision, growth and diversification to their team and drive the execution of an effective operations program. In addition, recommend ways to maximize profits, meet quality standards, set production goals and build teamwork.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Support operations management for all ferrous and non-ferrous units with the objective of maintaining a safe, organized, and tidy facility.

• Conduct themselves with professionalism and be responsive to all internal and external customers.
• Handle all disputes in a timely and effective manner. Effectiveness is defined as protection of both Metalico and the interests of the disputed party.
• Manage the employee' day-to-day duties. Set up daily assignments for all yard/plant staff.
• Effective use of all company assests
• Ensure that all customers' needs are met on a continuing basis.
• Follow and perform duties in accordance with the Metalico Code of Business Conduct.
• Attend relevant training/information sessions with the intent of becoming more knowledgeable.
• Responsible for planning and requesting capital needs.
• Efficient use of available space for inventory management.
• Responsible for identifying and developing future leaders of our organization.
• Follow all Metalico procedures regarding their activities.
• This position is to perform other duties/tasks as assigned by upper management.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Ability to lift / push / pull 30 lbs alone or with assistance as needed.
• Standing for extended periods of time.
• Sitting when operating equipment.
• Ability to reach with hands and arms.
• Ability to use both hands regularly with enough dexterity to safely operate basic hand and power tools.
• Awareness of surroundings (able to see, hear, talk), moving equipment, employees, etc.
• Move about a salvage yard on uneven terrain.
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer, keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components.
• Expected to participate in required training sessions, presentations, and meetings.
• Exposure to elements and / or non-climate-controlled environments where temperatures and weather extremes (heat, cold, rain, snow) may be encountered.
• Work may take place in an industrial environment, with noise, dust and fumes.
• Noise level in the work environment is moderate; hearing protection is always provided to employees by the company.
