  • Attend to workplace safety hazards and participate in mock tracers, ensuring timely reports and action.

Job Description And Duties

Patton State Hospital, Human Resources Department, is accepting applications for at least one (1) Limited Term, Full-time, Health and Safety Officer (Supervisor I) position in the Standards Compliance Department (SCD) under the direction of the Standards Compliance Director. Positions filled as limited term may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

The Health and Safety (H&S) Officer is responsible for planning, org anizing, directing, and supervising the H&S Office; managing and maintaining compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC), California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Licensing and Environmental, and Cal/OSHA; developing, implementing, and coordinating hospital Health and Safety, Workplace Violence Prevention (WVPP), Emergency Services, Heat Illness Prevention (HIPP), Regulated Waste Management (RWMP), and Injury and Illness Prevention (IIPP) Programs; managing hospital-wide annual training for WPV, IIPP, HIPP, and RWMP updates, and supervisor training; managing investigations of Cal/OSHA complaints, plans of action, and informs leadership on outcome; participates in mock tracers, investigates, and mitigates workplace safety hazards for slips, trips, falls; and chairs the Environment of Care (EOC) and WVP meetings.

The H&S Officer is expected to maintain confidentiality, privacy, and security of Protected Health Information (PHI) and Personally Identifiable Information (PII); maintain professionalism and work positively with all levels of management, supervisors, and staff; promote effective teamwork, lines of communication, and positive staff morale; maintain a professional appearance; comply with hospital policies and procedures; and report to work on time.

Highly desirable qualifications include:
  • Knowledge of Title 22 licensing regulations, TJC accreditation standards, CDPH regulatory requirements, and Cal/OSHA requirements.
  • Experience supervising personnel or acting as a lead.
  • Experience with planning, executing, and monitoring complex projects.
  • Experience coordinating and collaborating with management, internal/external stakeholders, and surveyors.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Adobe) and databases (WaRMSS, Plato, and Tableau).
The H&S Officer must possess the following:
KNOWLEDGE: Principles, practices and trends of public and business administration, including management and supportive staff services such as budget, personnel, management analysis, planning, program evaluation, or related areas; principles and practices of employee supervision, development and training; program management; formal and informal aspects of the legislative process; the administrative and department’s goals and policies; governmental functions and organization at the State and local level; knowledge of the manager’s role in the Department’s Equal Employment Opportunity Program, objectives and processes. ABILITY TO: Reason logically and creatively and utilize a variety of analytical techniques to resolve complex governmental and managerial problems; develop and evaluate alternatives; analyze data and present ideas and information effectively both orally and in writing; consult with and advise administrators or other interested parties on a wide variety of subject matter areas; gain and maintain the confidence and cooperation of those contacted during the course of work; review and edit writtenreports, utilize interdisciplinary teams effectively in the conduct of studies; manage a complex Staff Services program; establish and maintain project priorities; develop and effectively utilize all available resources; and effectively contribute to the Department’s Equal Employment Opportunity objectives.
