Job summary

The Berkshire Gas Company is seeking a Supervisor-Gas Maintenance & Operations in Greenfield, MA. You will oversee and coordinate in-house and contractor crews for gas distribution system operation and maintenance.

You will lead safety training, ensure regulatory compliance, and manage on-call rotations and incident investigations while supporting management with performance goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 3 or more years’ relevant experience preferred.
• Associate Degree with a minimum of 5 or more years’ relevant experience preferred.
• High School Diploma/GED required with 7 or more years’ relevant experience and completion of the relevant progression program.

Responsibilities

• Exercises independent judgment in the supervision and oversight of in-house crews and contractors engaged in the operation & maintenance of the natural gas distribution system.
• Schedules the work of distribution street crews; assesses project scope and assigns crews and skills balance; arranges for equipment and ensures material needs are met.
• Monitors accuracy of Gas Records for auditing purposes and ensures compliance.
• Works with state and government regulatory agencies.
• Coordinates safety training, inspections and accident investigations.
• Provide safe work environment and support training for field employees and external agencies.
• Maintain business records and confidential matters; document notifications in Company databases.
• Communicate with customers and officials about natural gas construction, operations & maintenance.

The salary range for this position is based on experience level ranging from $106,000 to $132,500 plus up to 16% bonus

Key Responsibilities:

• * Exercises independent judgment in the supervision and oversight of in-house crews and contractors engaged in the operation & maintenance of the natural gas distribution system
• · Schedules the work of distribution street crews. Assess the scope of projects and assigns the appropriate crew and skills balance. Arranges for any special equipment and ensures that all material needs are met.
• · Monitors accuracy of Gas Records for auditing purposes and ensure compliance.
• · Works with the state and government regulatory agencies.
• · Coordinates safety training, documentation, inspections, and accident investigations.
• · Use full range of technical knowledge & experience to assist & support management with providing a safe work environment, performing job inspections, meeting compliance requirements, company objectives & assisting the applicable teams to achieve & exceed goals.
• · Utilize Company training modules to provide or support training for field employees and external public agencies such as fire departments utilizing presentation tools PowerPoint or other applicable applications.
• · Maintain business records, reports and works with confidential matters.
• · Meets with contractors and customers, resolves conflicts, prepares reports, supports Company policies and procedures and creates correspondence along with documenting these notifications in the Company databases.
• · Communicates with customers and community officials concerning all aspects of possible natural gas utility construction, operations & maintenance.
• · Assist Technical Services with remediation efforts.
• Participates in the supervisory on-call rotation, which involves assigning and directing the work of unionized internal work crews.
• Exercises sound independent judgment while serving as the on-site supervisor during outages or other natural gas emergencies, ensuring safe and efficient response and remediation.
• Initiates, and conducts investigations concerning appropriate disciplinary action for bargaining unit employees when required. Understands and complies with the labor contract and works to resolve initial grievances and other matters in collaboration with Labor Relations team.

· Will conduct employee evaluations for annual performance appraisal process.

· Provides leadership in gas emergencies to ensure safe and compliant field response to restore gas distribution system to normal conditions. Organize and plan emergency response with other key support organizations.

Required Qualifications:
Education & Experience Required:

• o Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 3 or more years’ relevant experience preferred.
• o Associate Degree with a minimum of 5 or more years’ relevant experience preferred.
• o High School Diploma/GED required with 7 or more years’ relevant experience and the completion of the relevant progression program.
• o Knowledge of gas distribution construction and maintenance
• o Knowledge of industry federal and state regulations
• o Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered

· Certifications:

• o Valid Driver’s License
• o Will be required to obtain and maintain Operator Qualifications for natural gas

· Skills/Abilities:

• o Results and customer service oriented.
• o Good oral and written communications skills.
• o Self-directed work skills with emphasis on multitasking.
• o Computer skills applicable to MS Word, MS Excel, SAP, MS Outlook.
• o Demonstrated supervisory skills.
