Job summary

New York City Department of Transportation is seeking a Supervisor Electrician to oversee electricians and support staff in maintaining electrical systems for city buildings, bridges, and traffic control infrastructure.

Under supervision, you will schedule work, inspect installations, and coordinate with inspectors and contractors. A valid NY driver’s license is preferred and essential for field access; residency requirements may apply.

Qualifications

• Six years of full-time electrical experience, last 15 years, with at least one year in supervision; or
• Four years plus formal training, with at least one year of supervising experience in the last 15 years.

Responsibilities

• Supervise electricians and helpers in installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems in buildings, bridges, and traffic control systems.
• Prepare work schedules, assign tasks, and inspect progress and compliance with codes and practices.
• Read plans and blueprints, coordinate with contractors and inspectors, and manage material and tool requisitions.

Job description

In order to be considered for this position candidate must be serving permanently in the title of Supervisor Electrician, or must be reachable on DOT's promotional list for Supervisor Electrician, Exam # 4558. Under general supervision, Supervisor Electricians supervise electricians and other assigned personnel in the installation, repair, replacement and maintenance of apparatus, equipment and electric wiring circuits for buildings, bridges, and elevated structures and/or traffic control systems according to the provisions of the Administrative Code and electrical practice in the City of New York. Supervisor Electricians prepare and are responsible for the work of electricians, electrician's helpers, and other assigned personnel in altering, repairing, and maintaining appliances, equipment and wiring circuits in electrical installations for light, heat and power in or on buildings and/or traffic control systems; make decisions relative to work procedures; prepare work schedules and make work assignments; make field inspections in connection with electrical installations and components of systems relative to work progress or need for alterations, maintenance, and repairs; prepare job orders and tool and material requisitions; supervise the complete operation of the department shop; consult with staff personnel, contractors, inspectors, and manufacturers' representatives in connection with department work; keep records and make reports. Ability to operate a motor vehicle or related transport equipment to access work sites in the performance of assigned duties is a plus. All Supervisor Electricians perform related work. Some assignments may require a driver's license. Preference will be given to candidate who possess a driver's license valid in the state of New York with no restrictions. Minimum Qualifications

• 1. Six years of full-time satisfactory experience as an electrician acquired within the last fifteen years, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or
• 2. At least four years of experience as described in "1" above, plus sufficient satisfactory experience as an electrician's helper or apprentice electrician or training in the electrical field acquired in an approved trade, technical or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of the remaining experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of such helper experience, apprentice training or training in the electrical field. However, all candidates must have had at least one year of full-time satisfactory experience as a supervising electrician acquired within the last fifteen years.

License Requirements

A Motor Vehicle Driver license valid in the State of New York.

All licenses must be maintained for the duration of employment.
