Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care's Environmental Services department is seeking a Custodian Services Supervisor to coordinate, supervise, inspect results, and oversee the work activities of custodians on campus.

This on-campus, full-time role operates on 3rd shift (10:00 p.m.–6:30 a.m.) with rotating weekends; responsibilities include scheduling, training, inspecting areas, evaluating staff performance, and ensuring compliance with established guidelines.

Qualifications

• Two years of custodial experience or related facilities maintenance.
• At least six months of supervisory experience; ability to assign, inspect, and coordinate daily work.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, supervise, inspect results, and manage custodial staff per guidelines.
• Develop work schedules and direct daily routines.
• Train and orient new employees; conduct formal training sessions to improve knowledge and skills.
• Schedule and approve vacations; conduct formal training sessions to improve employee knowledge and skills.
• Inspect all areas of assignment and complete inspection reports.
• Evaluate, test, and recommend new supplies and equipment.
• Coordinate relocation of furniture and equipment and movement to and from repair shops and storage.
• Oversee assembly and delivery of new equipment and removal of equipment from inventory.
• Coordinate custodial functions for environmental conditions, linen requirements, and decontamination procedures.
• Maintain linen and custodial supplies inventories; keep records and reports as directed.
• Assist in planning procedures and work methods for efficiency improvements.
• Report damage and irregularities requiring attention or repair.
• Address requests and complaints from departments related to custodial services

The University of Iowa Health Care department of Environmental Services is seeking a Custodian Services Supervisor to coordinate, supervise, inspect results, and be responsible for the work activities of the custodians in accordance with established guidelines. Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

• Interviews and effectively recommends hiring, evaluates employee performance, and effectively recommends disciplinary actions, promotions, merit increases, and termination.
• Develops work schedules and directs the daily work routine of custodial employees.
• Trains and orients new employees; conducts formal training sessions to improve employee knowledge and skills.
• Schedules and approves vacation of employees; conducts formal training sessions to improve employee knowledge and skills.
• Inspects all areas of assignment and completes inspection reports.
• Evaluates, tests, and recommends new supplies and equipment.
• Coordinates relocation of furniture and equipment and movement to and from repair shops and storage.
• Oversees assembly and delivery of new equipment and removal of equipment from inventory.
• Coordinates and oversees custodial functions that meet various specialized departmental needs using specialized knowledge of requirements for environmental conditions, linen requirements, medical records, proper decontamination procedures, etc.
• Maintains inventory of linen and record of linen laundering; maintains inventory of custodial supplies and keep and prepares other records and reports as directed.
• Assists in planning procedures and work methods and revises or recommends revisions to improve efficiency of operations and services.
• Is responsible for reporting damage and other irregularities requiring attention or repair.
• Acts upon requests and complaints from departments related to custodial services

This position is performed fully on campus.
