Job Summary Job Description Overview The Custodial Supervisor supervises, oversees, monitors, and supports the custodial service for the City and its buildings, facilities, and various departments.
Essential Functions
- Supervises, administers, and supports the custodial activities for the City; delegates authority and responsibility for assigned tasks to subordinates; plans, implements, coordinates, monitors compliance, and evaluates policies and procedures; reviews and oversees work schedules of others all subordinate levels.
- Recruits, hires, trains, and facilitates the success of a custodians; oversees performance evaluations, feedback, disciplinary actions, and professional development; processes and approves payroll and supervises the handling of personnel issues and resolving conflict.
- Analyzes, evaluates, and ensures daily goals are met in a timely manner and works to increase productivity; oversees the preparation of and evaluates, implements, and administers the department budget; tracks and oversees revenue and expenses while monitoring custodian activities.
- Manages equipment, inventory, tool, and material inventory; ensures availability of appropriate equipment to ensure effective operations.
- Provides quality customer service and competent public interaction; resolves issues and concerns, addresses complaints, and collaborates with other staff to address problems.
- Checks and cleans equipment daily to ensure proper, safe operation; identifies issues that need greater attention, ensures all spaces are in safe and operable condition, and facilitates repairs or other cleaning.
- Provides leadership for special projects and events throughout the City; ensures proper set up, cleans equipment, and ensures all spaces and facilities are ready for use.
- Performs any and all other trades work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Supervising and overseeing custodial staff and activities.
- Knowledge of City facilities, buildings, and public spaces.
- Knowledge and aptitude necessary to perform a variety of routine cleaning and custodial tasks.
- Knowledge of developing budgets, tracking expenses, and making purchases.
- Administering and facilitating work orders and assignments.
- Ability to use hand/power cleaning tools and equipment.
- Ability to perform manual labor.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Establishing and maintaining effective relationships.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience: Four (4) years of experience in facilities maintenance or building trades (i.e., plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, or custodial) and Two (2) years of supervisory or lead work responsibilities (This experience may be included in the required experience listed above).
Equivalency
- Associate degree (or higher) in any field plus two (2) years of the required experience, including two (2) years of supervisory or lead work responsibilities will meet the education and experience requirements.
License and Certifications
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Must be able to obtain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification within probationary period.
Other Requirements
- Subject to twenty-four (24) hour emergency calls.
- No Felony or Class A misdemeanor convictions.
- No Class B misdemeanor convictions in the last ten (10) years.
- No Family Violence convictions.
- Cannot currently be on deferred adjudication for any Felony, Class A or Class B misdemeanor charge.
- Requires continuous standing, walking, and bending.
Preferences
- Ability to assign work schedules and make cost/material estimates.
Salary Range
$26.65 - $31.28. The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
