As a Construction Supervisor, you will oversee contractor crews performing both maintenance and construction activities across our service territory. Reporting to the Manager or Lead Construction Supervisor, you'll be responsible for coordinating daily field operations, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company, regulatory, and environmental standards.

Key Accountabilities
  • Coordinate the daily activities of assigned external contractors performing construction, maintenance and restoration work associated with electric utility civil or substation construction. Work in unison with other National Grid departments to ensure a seamless transition of work.
  • Supervise daily project activities on-site for civil and substation projects, ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and safety regulations.
  • Oversee and manage the work of construction crews, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring adherence to contractual obligations and performance standards.
  • Fully understand the assigned project scope and contract work authorization details. Interface with project stakeholders to ensure job commitments are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure quality control. Provide quality assurance that the work being performed is per National Grid safety standards, construction specifications, construction standards and applicable contractual documents.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to review engineering drawings and technical specifications. Survey site locations for constructability considerations, confirm proper permits and licenses are available prior to work start and attend project meetings as requested.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily activities, including labor, materials, and equipment usage. This will include ensuring adherence to contract documents, monitoring change orders, and verifying the accuracy of contractor invoicing. Prepare oral and written update reports utilizing a web-based reporting database.
  • Ensure that all safety protocols are followed and promote a culture of safety among all team members.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, including engineering and project management teams, to address any project-related concerns.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; a degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Job-related experience or knowledge acquired from 2+ years in the field of construction or military and history of progressively responsible experience in the construction field with preferred experience in the Utility Industry is required.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and manage on-site teams effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail, with a focus on delivering results.
  • Understanding of construction principles, equipment, work methods, the hazards associated with this work and ability to mitigate those hazards.
  • Knowledge of substation construction processes, contract management, and contractor oversight is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret project scopes of work, prints, specifications, schematics, and contract documents, be able to catch errors before they are made and develop effective solutions.
  • Proficiency in construction management software and tools (e.g., MS Project, Procore) is a plus.
  • Ability to travel throughout the service territory, reporting to job-sites daily. Willingness to work extended hours when job requires and for system emergencies is required.

Salary: $97,000 - $114,000 per year
